Guest guest
My question would be won't the plastic wrap, baking mats, etc leach toxins into your organic fruits as they dry? Just a thought... God Bless, Jamie in Az
Guest guest
I'm trying to figure out a good way to make homemade fruit rollups. I've been grinding up fruit in the blender and then pouring it out and dehydrating it. BUT my dehydrator has no trays. So first (like a dufus) I tried pouring it on tin foil. That was a big mess. None of the fruit would come off the foil. So I had to throw that all away. Next I tried wax paper. Same problem. The fruit will NOT come off without ripping the paper off with it. Any ideas? Guest guest
Candace, I know that if you dry it completely it should come off the way paper. One thing to be careful of, is drying it too fast. Set you dehydrator to about 105 F and leave the fruit there for about a week. That should do it. Oh, and if you can try to get your fruit spread out thinner. I'm no professional at that but I'm definitely interested in how it turns out. So lemme know... yeah? Guest guest
The dehydrator I have is extremely wimpy. It has no fan, just heat. No heat adjustments, either. Just a way to adjust how many open vents there are on top. The first time I used it, I thought it wasn't working, but after appx 4 hours it finally felt warm in there. I left it on both times for appx 16 hours. I was thinking maybe I spread the fruit too thin. Maybe I should just not put it in the blender and just dehydrate the fruit whole. I just don't see kiddo being as likely to eat it that way. I thought for sure the wax paper would be the solution but it's stuck to it like it's glued. Guest guest
If you can t budget the teflex sheets, try very lightly oiling the wax or parchment paper. Use something like cocnut or almond oil that will not impart a flavor of its own. Guest guest
The only thing I know of to use is Saran Wrap - the thin plastic wrap. It just peels off of the fruit leather or roll up. Actually after it is dried in the dehydrator you just take it out and roll it up with the plastic on it for storage and then unroll and peel off the wrap as you use it.
