Guest guest
Hey Folks, I am still kicking. The reason I haven't been here in a while is because...well, yall know things have been messed up lately...but, anyway I started playing in the yard. There is so much potential for this yard (I'm in Lakeland Florida) it's just a crime to let it go to waste. (Mom and Papa haven't even raked in five years, much less anything else!) Anyhow, I've got some mini roses and two gardenia bushes and something is cutting the stems off of all of them. It's only a couple a day, but it's pissing me off. I was sitting there on the screened room today, taking a break, so I decided to get one that's a container plant and put it right in front of me to hunt for bugs or something. I found a few things that almost looked like funny spiders and a little tiny light green grasshopper (maybe?), but nothing that looked like it could saw my stems off. I walked around to the back of the house to see if the hen had laid another egg today and when I came back...there was another rose with about an inch or two of the stem laying on the table. I've looked up cutworms, and I couldn't find any on the plant. What else could be doing this so quick and me not be able to see them? I have looked in four different plant books and six different internet sites...I'm lost. I'll tell yall a trick I've learned for keeping most things off plants, even my dog out of the Mexican heather bed...garlic, pepper and onion. I guess most of you already know this trick though, huh? I got it out of a book called green book or something like that. Thanks so much for any help yall can give me on my perplexing situation here. Have a good one, Angel PS good tonic for worries and mental troubles = yard work, piddling in the yard Please! I'm begging...send a copy of any answers to AnjewelCHaze . I have three hours on this miserable ISP a month and it takes forever to get into . Thanks so much.

Guest guest
Hi Angel! good to see you are still out and about and able to get out in God's good sunshine! if you were here in Texas, i'd think that it might be either grasshoppers or slugs. now a nice sized grasshopper can devistate a shrub!! you really need to check with a garden group hoping that some one in Florida can help. i think i would spray the plants with a quart of water in a hand spray with about a short teaspoon of liquid soap (maybe like Murphey's oil soap) and about 2 tsp or so of either vinegar or baking soda. if you don't have Murphey's, add a tiny bit of olive oil or UDO..just a smidgen. love.. granny lee P.S. also, some birds can/will pluck a stem off. - AnjewelCHaze Hey Folks, I am still kicking.
