Guest guest
In what situations can doctors/ medical staff force medical procedures on patients? Or are they not allowed to in any circumstances? I am asking because I am considering a home birth, as I'm concerned hospital staff would force certain procedures on me that I don't want during the birth. Guest guest
I worked as a doula. It seems to me that if you want a natural birth, you need to have a doctor that really knows how to help you through it. Technically doctors and medical staff should not force any procedure on you unless it's life threatening but they can be persuasive. I'm not saying doctors and hospitals are evil. Most of them just aren't trained to handle natural childbirth. The nurses will also go along with whatever the doctor wants for the most part. If you want to birth at a hospital, then really research your doctor. There ar key questions you can ask your potential doctor that can help you decide if he or she is comfortable with natural childbirth. In regards to homebirth, evidence show that it is very safe for low- risk mothers (maybe even safer than hospitals). Just make sure you have good midwives attending. Also your newborn would not be subjected to multiple tests and be separated from you. You don't have to worry about your child receiving sugar water or formula unless that's what you really want. You also get more aftercare from homebirth midwives that you don't receive from the hospital for a vaginal birth. Feel free to email me off list if you have any other questions. Congratulations by the way. Yvonne -- In , " lendytaylor10 " <lendytaylor10 wrote: > > In what situations can doctors/ medical staff force medical procedures > on patients?
