Guest guest
Need Help: A baby is breast feed until seven months. Mother is now dry. How can, what can, we get this baby to drink formula. Does not like it and resist drinking it at all. Will eat cereal and some fruit. Needs the milk. Guest guest
Humm...did mommy try to get her supply back up with herbs or did she decide to wean from BF? If she still wants to BF she could still try herbs (or meds if necessary) and continue to latch baby on. Has she tried the formula in a cup rather then a bottle or different nipples? Is she using the formula to mix the cereal? If she does the latch on maybe she could put some prepared formula on her nipples so baby can have the same feeling but the new taste. If that's the only was she can get baby to eat she can use formula with a lactation aid. Described here. http://www.breastfeeding.com/all_about/all_about_lact.html I remember my sons first taste of formula. It was at 8mo I think and he made a face and shook his head as if to say " what the heck is that " . I was working FT so my supply was dwindling and I needed him to get use to it. That stuff is nasty! Tanya --- Robert <antiqmon2004 wrote: > Need Help: A baby is breast feed until seven > months. Mother is now > dry. How can, what can, we get this baby to drink > formula. Guest guest
Blessed Thistle herb will bring in a lot of milk for nursing. Otherwise goats milk is a very good choice. Bet the baby likes it! Be careful about introducing foods. Does Mom know about Earths's Best Baby Food I beleive it is called. All organic so much better. Chlorophyll, Spirulina are good starters. Start with veggies, then meat, then grains, then fruit. Once the baby starts on the fruit the veggies go out the window! Avoid formulas, white sugar, white flour. Guest guest
Formula is so far removed from milk, I would not offer it at all. Maybe try some raw milk either goat or cow's instead. The baby will likely take to it soon. Best of luck! Connie , " Robert " <antiqmon2004 wrote: > > Need Help: A baby is breast feed until seven months. Mother is now > dry. Guest guest
Clever baby! He knows what is good for him. Tell the mother to lie down with this baby and every time he opens his mouth, to offer the breast. Her milk will come back, even if it takes a week of laying in bed with the baby. It happened to me; it is doable. __________________ Need Help: A baby is breast feed until seven months. Mother is now dry. How can, what can, we get this baby to drink formula. Guest guest
I will tend to disagree about the fruits vs. veggies. My son loves both and always has. Our Dr. did suggest Veggies before fruit, but meat last and pretty much cereal first since it is the least likely to cause allergies, hence the rice (not wheat) cereal that most babies have first. Guest guest
Due to allergies cow milk should not be offered until a bit later. Goat's milk maybe ok as I've heard it's closest to human milk. Guest guest
If mother is dry and all steps to induce breast milk are failing, try goats milk. Mother also needs to increase her fluid intake and make sure she is rested. Stress reduction is also necessary. Check with LeLeche League for support. Guest guest
--If the mother will keep on letting the baby suck, the milk will come in, alternate breasts left and then right. Give her marshmallow,- --Latin Botanical nsme: (ALTHEA ) capsules or tea and lots of water. Althea never fails. Also shredded wheat is good to bring milk. A lot of mothers think they are dry when the breasts soften and are not as hard as when breast feeding began. This is natural and does not mean there is no more milk. Frequent feedings will bring milk back. Get a baby weight scale that measures in ounces and weigh before and after feeding to determine the amount of milk that baby is getting. I would really make an effort to continue the breast feeding. If bottle feeding is absolutely necessary, then get he type of bottle with the nipple that resembles the breast. When feeding put the bottle next to the breast and see if that works. If not then the baby will have to cry a lot until it resigns itself to the bottle which is sad for the baby. Goat milk is the best and closest to breast milk. Please get it at a health food store or Trader Joe's which is where I buy it. Trader Joe's has the best tasting goat milk and it is clean and pasteurized but not homogenized so milk must be shaken to get the cream off the top. Cow milk is hard to digest and many babies are allergic to it, not to mention all the nasty stuff in it. Milk allergies cause stomach pain and eczema an itchy scaly rash. Many babies are allergic to soy also which is genetically modified now and not a natural food anymore. I am a mother of 7, grandmother of 9 and great grandmother of 3, so have had much experience with babies. Guest guest
I know some mothers who have put formula in a bottle then put some food like gerber food or put in blended fruits and just shook it and it gave it some taste. try asking your doctor what other methods there are, maybe he'll know what you guys can try to get the little one to drink formula. Guest guest
Namaste, Try a different brand of formula. Check with your doctor first of all to see what he recommends. Most large hospitals have breast milk donated by lactating mothers. Try the LaLeche Society...it is made up of breatfeeding mothers. This would be must healthier than formula...it has long lasting health issues from what I hear. Blessings!
