Guest guest
Does anyone have experience with symptoms of depression and anxiety related to a woman's menstrual cycle? I have been tracking my moods over the past 1.5 years and recently had a crash at the onset of my period when my body was worn down by extra stress. A psychiatrist told me I could have PMDD and suggested Lexapro, but it made me feel like I was on speed. 1. Can dehydration/electrolyte imbalance cause symptoms of depression and anxiety (heart racing, heavy chest)? 2. I do bodywork for hours at a time in a dimly lit room and have noticed symptoms accumulate during hours of darkness. 3. What kind of tests and/or treatments naturally can be effective for sleep disturbance related to this? Thanks!
Guest guest
Hi Candi, I want to acknowledge you for being so in tune with your moods and noticing what triggers your feelings of depression. Depression is a symptom with many possible causes. For women, hormonal changes, toxicity, adrenal fatigue, compromised thyroid function, insulin resistance are all among the possible causes. It's important to address the cause for lasting, positive results. I'm curious about your age. It sounds like you'e sensitive to stess. If you're having trouble sleeping too, your cortisol levels might be elevated in the evening. You might want to nurture your adrenals. Also, consider increasing your vitamin D intake and/or get more sunlight, and by all means, drink lots of water to flush toxins. This and added exercise sends oxygen to your cells and much more. Guest guest
Thanks for the response. I am 38 y.o. with 3 children and one ovary left. I still think there's something to the seasonal disturbance, me doing massage for hours in a dark room at a time. Someone at work suggested a plant light in the house. Guest guest
<<< I am 38 y.o. with 3 children and one ovary left. >>> Does that mean you've had a hysterectomy? <<< I still think there's something to the seasonal disturbance, me doing massage for hours in a dark room at a time. >>> Absolutely. 38 is when I first noticed hormonal changes (estrogen dominance) too. Consider MACA or progesterone cream to help lift your spirits, nurture your adrenals and balance your hormones. Hope you feel better!
