Guest guest
I know many of us do or have done Equine Therapy with our kids, so I thought you'd want to hear about the news story about which I was just emailed. It has to do with horses in the US being sent to slaughter in other countries. Now, I want to stress that it makes no mention of therapy horses being slaughtered, and I sincerely doubt that any Equine Therapist would ever allow one of their horses to end up in such a situation. I am just bringing this to the attention of Equine Therapy clients and friends because since our kids get so much from these animals, I figure the least we can do is call our government officials, some of whom are working to stop this. The full story can be found here: http://wjz.com/seenon/horse.slaughter.national.2.654406.html According to the story, " it's estimated more than 100,000 American horses were slaughtered for their meat in 2007. The torture for many of those horses begins long before they reach the slaughterhouse. " These horses are beaten with sticks, canes, whips to get them on and off transport vehicles, then electrocuted as many times as it takes to get them down, finally being strung up by their legs and having their throats slit. Apparently, Maryland Senator Barbara Mikulski (mentioned in the story) is one of the co-sponsors of a bill to stop this. So, here's what you can do with just a few minutes to stop this...go to http://www.house.gov/ AND http://www.senate.gov/ find your Congress Person's and Senator's contact info and call your Congress Person AND Senator and ask them to support these bills. Calling generally makes more impact than just emailing. Here is the URL to the Senate Bill S.311 http://thomas.loc.gov/cgi-bin/bdquery/z?d110:s.00311: and the URL to the House Bill H.R.503 http://thomas.loc.gov/cgi-bin/bdquery/z?d110:h.r.00503: Our daughter who is now 7 years old, has been doing Equine Therapy for more than half her life, so I am doing this to honor all the wonderful horses that she has ridden over the years, especially in memory of a sweet old horse named, Dragon, who passed away this Summer. Peace be with you!---Nicole Muench Seidel ********************************************* There is no such thing as " false hope " ! http://www.autismtreatmentcenter.org/ http://www.autismtreatmentcenter.org/contents/programs_and_services/books_tapes_\ and_videos.php ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Elizabeth Edwards speaking about Sen. John Edwards said " ...he was the single most optimistic person I'd ever known. He honestly believed that if people of good will put their effort in something; if they worked hard enough, anything was possible... " In my heart, I believe that too! ______________________________\ ____ Never miss a thing. Make your home page. http://www./r/hs
