Milk Thistle, the liquid tincture, is very good for liver

detox/support. Although I don't know if it's true, some even say that

using it will actually reverse cirrhosis of the liver.

Lecithin is also beneficial, as it helps remove toxic, fatty deposits

from the liver.

Stop alcohol consumption completely. Non-alcohol policy!

I would also suggest TCM (Traditional ) where the TCM

practitioner may choose to combine acupuncture with Chinese herbs

depending on your differential diagnosis. Be aware that it is long term

treatment. If due to financial reasons regular TCM maintenance cannot

be afforded, there are some wonderful herbal liver tonics which should

be non-alcohol based. Please consult this with either a TCM

practitioner or an qualified naturopath in your area (do not self-

diagnose and self-administer due to possible contraindications

depending on the person's other health issues and other prescribed

medications).

Treatment depends on whats causing the problem. Two common issues are alcohol

and

drug consumption and weight.

If the diet is restricted follow the restriction diet and fluid if its been

prescribed. Its based

on your blood chemistry.

Avoid processed food. This is one problem where going with organic foods is a

really good

idea. Do not take tylenol or asprin.

talk to a practitioner TCM or whatever you feel most comfortable with before

taking any

herbs.

If your going to both a naturopath and western med doc make sure both docs know

what

the other is doing. Helping to coordinate between them will help them do a

better job.

If your western med doc puts up a fuss about the naturopath fire him and find

someone

else. They are required to support coordination between alternative medicine and

western.

Thanks for your reply. She hasn't choose any TCM or other western med yet she is

just waiting to find out the best treatment and then start to treat the

cirrouosis.

Milk Thistle is highly recommended for the liver. Even non holistic physicians

are not suggesting it. I even used it on my former late dog who had pervasive

liver cysts, his liver looked like Swiss cheese with an ultrasound. I was told

most dogs do not survive it and to plan for euthanasia or keeping him

comfortable until he died. He recovered and lived another year and the Vet said

his liver enzymes decreased to half of what they were from the time of his first

diagnoses. Considering he was about 15 to 16 at the time of his diagnosis and

also has two mast cell tumors removed, living another year was truly

exceptional.
