swollen lymph nodes ?

Good morning!

I noticed about two weeks ago swelling on either side of my neck just

above my collarbone. I have experienced swollen glands before but

they always seem to dissipate within a day or two. They swell and

recede during different times of the day but I haven't noticed a

pattern really.

My very good doctor who is a nutritional/metabolic/psychiatric

physician (his description of his practice) prescribed Armour thyroid

after careful analysis of my blood, along with a multi-vitamin, B-12,

chromium, zinc 3 times per week (copper levels are slightly high in

relation to zinc). I've been taking these for a little over two

years. I got a new set of blood tests last week and will meet with

him next week to go over these.

I try to eat and prepare a good diet for myself and my family, avoid

processed foods and fast food, eat organic when at all possible and

have a slightly alkaline body pH. I am 47 years old next month and

have not had many menopausal symptoms yet, aside from heavy menstrual

flow for the first couple of days of my pretty-regular periods. I am

active physically and have a demanding job.

I have heard " rebounding " is a very good activity for the body and the

lymph system in particular so I am planning to buy a small trampoline

to play on as soon as possible. Are there any other suggestions from

the group? Thanks in advance.

I had Lymphoma type of cancer some time ago and I had exactly same type of

swelling on that area that you described because of the cancer, the doctor did

the biopsy on that place to detect the type of the lymphoma which I had. It

would be good if you get that check as soon as possible. I wish you best.

An easy way to get that stuck lymph fluid moving along is to take a

washcloth and warm it in as hot of water as you can manage. No need to

make it boiling, though. Lay it across the area that feels swollen

until it comes back to room temp. Then rinse the cloth in cold water;

make sure it gets reasonably cold. Again, lay that across the swollen

area until it warms to room temp. You can repeat that another time

and/or as often as you wish.

However, if this pertains to a swelling from a thyroid disorder, it

may not help. But it won't hurt to try either. I also am hypothyroid

and experienced that swelling. The hot/cold cloth treatment always

helped. I don't experience it all anymore so I don't know if that is

because my hypothyroidism is well managed (with only supplements) or

because I'm healthier overall.

It is great what Cindy reccomends....in addition to that- you could

try a lymphatic massage or Reflexology on the ear or hands or

feet....the face is another option. With the face massage- you drain

and rejuvinate the lymph system. All of these are pain free and very

relaxing- great way to help the body without causing discomfort to

the area you want to treat. Just contact me if you need help finding

a therapist in your area. Hope this helps.
