Guest guest
Hi there, I LOVE this group! IT's so full of excellent advice and knowledge! Mainly I lurk and read but have some " issues " that I hope you all can help me resolve. 2 years ago I stopped smoking cigarettes (yeah!) after 30 years. I was cruising along great with health/weight until about 8 months later. I went through a very emotionally upsetting time due to divorce and financial troubles for about 18 months. During the turmoil, I started gaining unexplained weight. I am 5'6 " tall and have always weighed between 120 and 125 lbs. I am now up to 142 and freaking out! The gain seems to be all over but clearly has deposited itself in the below waist to low hip area. Classic cortisol overload? I am not a huge sugar eater although I have been feeling cravings for it. I've had my thyroid checked.... " low normal " and am taking a very minute dose of Levothroid ( not real happy about that). I haven't noticed a change in weight as a result. I do get achy joints and muscles but have blamed that on my line of work which is massage therapy. I've noticed " flare ups " though. The latest issue that has me very concerned and worried is the burning in my muscles after a short amount of exercise or use. For instance, last night while going up several flights of stairs I had to stop because my leg muscles felt weak and were burning! I had to rest for a few minutes before continuing on. That kind of thing is happening more often to me. I've NEVER had a problem with activity before! I must note here too that I do experience tiredness and a lack of motivation lately. I am 47 and have been in very good health for the most part. I take a whole food multi daily, a whole food b-complex and C as well as Cod Liver Oil. Occasionally I'll use Apple Cider Vinegar. I did a liver cleanse by renew life not long ago and that seemed to improve my symptoms although I'm not feeling so improved now. Is this a toxic thing? What do you think is going on and what can I do about it? Thank you so much for taking the time to read this and for any advice you have! Hi Juli, L-Glutamine is an amino acid that will help with the sugar cravings and also supports the muscles. http://www.lowcarbnexus.com/articles/lglutamine.html Not sure about your 'burning' feeling, but Magnesium Malate is great for relaxing the muscles. If you're actually getting pinpointed cramps, then magnesium oil topically applied works very well. You might also want to try a bath with 4 cups of epsom salts mixed in before bedtime, all your muscles will relax. Jean
