Guest guest
This vest looks intriguing. I've also seen " heavy sneakers " - they weigh a couple pounds each and are supposed to give your legs and butt a good workout just by walking around. They're expensive, around $200 I think. Has anyone tried those, and how are they working for you? Guest guest
I am 37 and was dxd with osteoporosis/osteopenia when I was 30 - just before I had my first child & have been pregnant twice (actually 3x - one miscarriage) and breastfeeding ever since. I am extremely hesitant to take any pharmaceutical drugs, even after my nurslings are weaned, and am increasingly concerned about my future bone health. I do yoga 1-4x/month, but other than lugging around kids & their stuff, get very little exercise (they keep me kinda busy ;-P). I am vegetarian, eat little dairy, lots of veggies, including greens, take calcium & magnesium, and natural transdermal progesterone, but I still find that when I don't exercise much, my hip joints ache (that's where the osteo. is). I do drink coffee & wine (I admire those who can parent without them!). It does run in my family, but no extreme cases that I know of - only after menopause. I did drink a lot of dairy, coffee & alcohol & ate a lot of sugar in my younger years, but I also exercised a lot - mostly weight training & running. I'm 5'4 " ish and have weight about the same - 105 - 108 for the last 20 years or so (when I wasn't pregnant, of course). I haven't made the time yet for another bone scan, and am not convinced that that's a great dx tool, anyway, as the results are subjective. What are the BEST things I can do to improve my bone health while I'm still nursing? I know that my options will really open up afterward, but I don't want things to get worse now. What is it about resistance exercising that helps? I've heard that it can rebuild bone, and I've heard that it doesn't - that it only helps maintain strength & balance to avoid injuries due to falls. , " Carol " <carol wrote: > > This vest looks intriguing.
