Guest guest
Hi, My husband has recently been diagnosed with Marfan Syndrome. It affects the connective tissue which is defective with this syndrome. My main concern is that he has developed a heart murmur from this which he didn't have in the past. I know heart murmurs don't necessarily mean anything (I have one too), but with this condition the stress of the connective tissue puts strain on the aorta of the heart and can lead to major problems. Can anyone suggest any herbal remedies, teas or oils that he can take to help him with this? Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks, Nicole
Guest guest
i'm so glad that you are trying to help your husband so early in his diagnosis. Although i don't know any herbal supplements or secrets, i have seen what this disease can do to people. I personally know 4 people in the same family who were diagnosed with marfan's early on in life and have seen two of them pass and one who was told he would never live to be 20 years old. He is 23 now and doing very well. The 4th of the bunch takes care of herself and is 26 years old but now lives without her mom and aunt because they both died from marfan's (along with a sister who i never knew). i've always tried to learn as much as i could about the disease and will try and help you in any way i can to find natural herbs that can help. God bless you and your family, Toni Be a better pen pal. Text or chat with friends inside Mail. See how.
Guest guest
Hi Nicole, The National Marfans Foundation Site is an excellent source of information. http://www.marfan.org/nmf/GetEcomProdsRequestHandler.do?cid=3 You can order a booklet on information about MFS from this site. My son Steven, has Marfans and Aspergers Spectrum Autism. He's 6'7 " and weighs 160. They can do an ultrasound to rule out heart issues with Marfans. Destressing is majorly important. Also strengthening the bones and muscles. Calcium-Magnesium with D and potassium for bones and muscles, CoQ10 for the heart. I have worked with my son using Biofeedback and Theta with good results. Because Marfans affects the long bones and striated muscles such as the heart, you want to do whatever you can to strengthen them. We were told no stressful activities such as sports, however; walking, biking and swimming are excellent exercises you can take leisurely and also destress with. President Abraham Lincoln had MFS. You can recognise this by the extra long limbs, fingers, concave sternum amongst other things. The heart is definitely something to watch.
