Guest guest
I have extremely dry lips- they are not always chapped but extremely dry- I put alot of things on them. I have tried regular chap stick-only works for a while- then I have tried shea butter- also only for a while, I have tried baby " butt " cream- this works the longest- but the dry chapped comes back. I have also tried Noxzema and they say that works great too- it works for while and then they are back to being chapped again. I know this is dry weather season, but I also have it in the summer as well. I drink allot of water- not the 6-8 glasses they recommend but atleast 5 or during the course of the day. I take a multi vitamin and some supplements- Ellen
Guest guest
I have read (and experienced a little bit) that your lips can get " addicted " to moisturizers -- if there's always something else moistening the lips, they will stop moistening themselves. Might have to try to go a little longer and a little longer between lip-balm applications. That's what I did, and it fixed my slight problem. Guest guest
I have heard from an EMT that dry lips are the first sign of dehydration. Apparently your 5 glasses of water are not enough. Go and Google 'the water cure' and you will see why it is necessary to drink more water than that. And remember, if you think that you drink extra water because you also drink tea, coffee, pop, juice -- you are not. The body doesn't recognize these things as water, but as food. You need half your weight, turned to ounces, in water every day. It explains it all in the water cure. Samala, Renee ---- I know this is dry weather season, but I also have it in the summer as well. Guest guest
Hi Ellen - my favorite, everyday sort of lip balm is Burt's Bees. It works better than anything else. However, when my lips get extremely dry, I rub honey into them. I'll put on a coat of honey, let it sit a while, repeat. When I can't stand it any longer (or am tempted to just lick it off!), I rinse my lips with cool water. I can really feel the difference after one time of this, but you might want to do it more often for a while. Other than that, I've always read that it's good to moisturize your body from the inside out. So you might want to look into taking something like fish oil or vitamin E or something else similar to give your body what it needs. Guest guest
I use shea butter. I got it from L'Occitane from qvc. It comes in a tin and you just need a tiny bit of it. I have had the same tin for over a year and I still have some left. I apply it whenever I feel dryness and also after eating, brushing my teeth, before going outdoors and before bed. Rule of thumb I follow is a quart of water per 50 pounds of body weight, plus a quart every day and if ill, add one more extra quart. If you do not eat salt, you may wish to add unrefined sea salt to your diet as well. For me dry lips are the one of the first signs that I have not been drinking enough water. I NEVER put anything on my lips and they are always soft and supple. I have tried regular chap stick-only works for a while Hi Ellen! The air is very dry where I live and my lips are always dry, I use some type of chap-stick product year-round. What I've like the best so far (and I've tried many) is a Vitamin E stick. Vitamin E seems to do the best for instant relief, and seems to linger making the lips feel moister. Everyday I take Omega 3 fish oil, flax oil and Natural Vitamin E softgels. I think taking these things helps lubricate the whole body including skin and lips Jean

Guest guest
The only thing that will likely cure it is drinking 64 oz of water a day, i'm afraid. Chapped lips are one of the first signs of dehydration. If its hard for you to drink that much water, try doing some of your hydrating by drinking flavored water or even juice or gatorade or something like that. You just will probably want to watch the calories. 64 oz of juice a day adds a lot of sugar to your diet, but it will hydrate you. I like to put a little lemon juice in my water for some extra flavor every now and then. One easy way to make sure you're getting enough water a day is to get a 32 oz cup or water bottle and try to fill it and drink it twice during the day. You can make a game out of it, I try to finish one bottle before lunch at work every day, then one more before I get home in the evening. Its totally possible to drink that much water per day, I actually drink more because I live in a semi arid climate and they say you should drink 8 to 12 8 oz glasses in dry climates. In fact, now that I'm breastfeeding my baby, I easily double the recommended amount of water I should drink in a day. You will find that drinking enough water will provide all sorts of other benefits besides just relieving chapped lips. The most important thing i learned in the army is that drinking water will cure damn near everything. , " Kat Miller " <js_kat wrote: > > > Ellen wrote: > > > > > > I have extremely dry lips- they are not always > > chapped but extremely dry- I put alot of things > > on them. Guest guest
Chapped lips can also be a sign of a deficiency of Essential Fatty Acids. The deficiency can come about because you don't take enough of them in, but it can also be a matter of absorption. So, once again, we see that taking care of overall health starts by improving the digestive system. And if it doesn't work, what are the side effects? A better digestive system! You gotta love this approach of building health vs treating disease. Ien in the Kootenays http://ienvan.multiply.com (blog)

I like to go barefoot around the house and at my age I need extra moisturizing anyway and especially this time of year. I am out of the lip stuff and I cannot find anymore. Anyone have a suggestion for a good place to order shea products online?? Thanks, Lynn Lynn Latham blue_texasgal (\__/) (='.'=) This is Bunny.
