Guest guest
This is a bill that is currently pending in the state of Virginia. If passed, it could potentially have an adverse affect on our rights to heal ourselves naturally. Please pay close attention to the area highlighted in red. If anyone wishes to contact our state legislators, I have included links with contact information. VA House of Delegates: http://dela. <http://dela.state.va.us/dela/MemBios.nsf/MWebsiteTL?OpenView> state.va.us/dela/MemBios.nsf/MWebsiteTL?OpenView VA Senate: http://sov.state. <http://sov.state.va.us/SenatorDB.nsf/$$Viewtemplate+for+WMembershipHome?Op enForm> va.us/SenatorDB.nsf/$$Viewtemplate+for+WMembershipHome?OpenForm It only takes a minute to write and let them know how you feel. It's time to protect our freedom again! Heather P.S. PLEASE HELP SPREAD THE WORD! gerry@montpelierchi <gerry%40montpelierchiro.com> ro.com wrote: Wed, 14 Nov 2007 05:58:25 -0700 gerry@montpelierchi <gerry%40montpelierchiro.com> ro.com Pending bill in Va " VA HB 1389 " hbunnell04 (AT) (DOT) <hbunnell04%40> com " Naturopath " means an individual, other than a doctor of medicine, osteopathy, chiropractic, or podiatry, who has successfully completed the requirements established for licensure by the Board to practice naturopathic medicine. " Practice of naturopathy or naturopathic medicine " means a system of primary health care for the (i) prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of human health conditions, injury, and disease; (ii) promotion or restoration of health; and (iii) the support and stimulation of a patient's inherent self-healing process through patient education and the use of natural therapies and therapeutic substances. § 54.1-2956.12. Regulations relating to the practice of naturopathy or naturopathic medicine. The Board shall promulgate regulations governing the practice of naturopathy or naturopathic medicine. The regulations shall include, at a minimum, standards for (i) performing and ordering physical and laboratory examinations for diagnostic purposes, consistent with naturopathic medical education and training, including, but not limited to, phlebotomy, clinical laboratory tests, orificial examinations, and physiological function tests, and diagnostic imaging studies; (ii) repair and care incidental to superficial lacerations and abrasions; (iii) removal of foreign bodies located in the superficial tissues; (iv) prescribing, dispensing, ordering, administering, or performing the following: (a) food, extracts of food, nutraceuticals, vitamins, amino acids, minerals, enzymes, botanicals and their extracts, botanical medicines, homeopathic medicines, all dietary supplements and nonprescription drugs as defined by the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act; (b) hot or cold hydrotherapy; naturopathic physical medicine; electromagnetic energy; colon hydrotherapy; and therapeutic exercise; © devices, including, but not limited to, therapeutic devices, barrier contraception, and durable medical equipment; (v) utilization of routes of administration that include oral, nasal, auricular, oscular, rectal, vaginal, transdermal, intradermal, subcutaneous, intravenous, and intramuscular consistent with naturopathic medical education and training; and (vi) performing other therapies consistent with naturopathic medical education and training that are approved by the Board. Please pay attention to the red highlited section. It is my personal reasoning that this bill can be interpretated in a way that causes the sale of all forms of herbal supplements to fall under the category of Naturopathic medicine, causing the dispensing, sale, preparation of any food substance that is used to " treat " any kind of dis-ease of the body to become illegal unless it is done by a licensed Naturopathic doctor and then only to treat their patients, not to make a profit from it. It is my opinion that this wording has been carefully crafted by supporters of pharmaceutical companies to affectively illiminate the sale and distribution of natural remedies on the open market. I am in favor of regulating Naturopaths, but not to this extent. This bill is not a good ammendment the way it is worded. It can be very restrictive in the market place and possibly limit availability of herbal remedies that should be available to people if they choose to take them.
