Strontium has been around for several hundred years and was used by the Roman Gladiators to strengthen their bones for combat! Protelos, 'Strontium Ranelate' is not 'yet' recognised by the FDA but, IS recognised as a first line treatment for Osteoporosis in Europe. One problem with the Protelos, 'S. Ranelate' is, that it is bulked out with Aspartame! Totally unecessary and goodness knows WHY - daft! Made by Servier, a French company in Neuilly - outside Paris. A Google will bring up 1670 'hits', here's one:- _http://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/70101.php_ (http://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/70101.php) Main Category: _Bones / Orthopaedics News_ (http://www.medicalnewstoday.com/sections/bones/) Article 08 May 2007 - 12:00 PDT New, long term data presented at the 34th European Symposium on Calcified Tissues (ECTS) this week underscore the unmatchable, long-term efficacy and quality of life improvement offered by the anti-osteoporotic treatment, Protelos® (strontium ranelate). These data also provide evidence to show that Protelos has clinical benefit in a broad range of osteoporotic patients, irrespective of their level of bone turnover and severity of their disease. Protelos is a new anti-osteoporosis treatment with a unique mode of action both increasing bone formation and decreasing bone resorption. For the first time, new data have shown sustained, five year efficacy against vertebral and non-vertebral fractures, including hip fractures.1 Protelos is also the first treatment to show an improvement in the quality of life of patients with vertebral postmenopausal osteoporosis over four years. (more...) Now, in place of the Aspartame laden Protelos SR, one can obtain Strontium Bone-Maker - it is the Strontium that is the efficacious ingredient. This is obtainable in the the USA and in Canada. I am on the Strontium Bone-Maker: am scripted for the Protelos SR - the hospital where my rheumatologist consults at, are finding too many side effects with patients taking the Bisphosphonate drugs!! - but will not have Aspartame/sweeteners in the house (dreadful toxic stuff - a real good product ruined by sweeteners). Getta hold of the Strontium Bone-Maker: take Magnesium Citrate and Vit-D, eat a good diet, to include leaft green vegetables (spinach, collards, and broccoli are all excellent) and bannanas, and, ensure that you take exercise and do gentle weight bearing exercises. You'll be right <smile> Molly
