Could deep tissue massage be the only answer?

I was touched with a series of seized muscles in my right leg, and I

was nearly down and unable to do any more walking, let alone navigate

around the house.I could not go for a walk, or do much of any thing. I

went into a massage therapy school, for which they did deep tissue

massage on my right leg. The therapist explained that there was a

whole lot of extremely hard tight muscles and that I should have come

in when things were not so complicated. I am taking great

supplementation and I am vegetarian as well. But sleeping is

impossible with this problem and I cannot be connected to the heat pad

forever. I have another deep tissue massage appointment this

afternoon, and wondered what else I can do to take better care of

myself?

Blessings and miracles to you all !!!

Vickie,

I recommend the topical application of Magnesium Oil on the muscles of

your leg. The magnesium will almost immediately relax the muscles,

therefore relieve cramping. Both my husband and myself use it

periodically for muscle cramps. Here's a link where you can buy it:

Also, daily intake of the supplement Magnesium Malate is recommended.

Absolutely, and I wish I had said the same. Bananas

have potassium, another very beneficial mineral.

Correct me if I am wrong, but I believe magnesium is

for muscle weakness and aches, and potassium is more

for muscle cramps and helps with healing bruises.

You may also want to look into a structural cause for the problem. I

had major spasms happening in my lower back, gluteals, and into

hamstrings from a sacroilliac sublocation. Putting the SI joint back

into alignment did wonders, but the spasms took time and bodywork to

release.

I've been using Pete Egoscue's " Pain Free " (see also " Pain Free for

Women " ) to address some of my structural issues that cause muscle pain

and nerve issues in my shoulders, arms, and hands, plus my feet. I've

found it very effective. (I posted a longer explanation on Pain Free

yesterday in response to a " lower back pain " post if you're interested).

Take a few minutes to look into a full length mirror with few clothes

on. Check the alignment of joints: are your feet flat? your ankles

under your knees? Do your knees point straight, inward, or outward?

Are both knees at the same height? Are you hips at the same heights?

Your shoulders? Do these joints line up under/on top of each other?

Where's your head-forward or on top of your spine? If you're out of

whack conceivably you could be putting lots of nasty stress on your

leg and it's rebelling. A good chiropractor might also be able to do

a gait analysis (I think highly trained MTs will do this, too) which

could point out a structural issue.

Good luck!

Yes, I would make sure you are getting magnesium, but also calcium, Vit D

and potassium. Also, have you considered massage with essential oils? Young

Living recommends elemi, wintergreen, peppermint, basil, white fir, Idaho

balsam fir, marjoram and lemongrass. Probably not all of those, but two or

three. If it were me, I'd go with lemongrass, wintergreen and peppermint.

Follow with a warm moist pack. This may help you. Make sure you get

therapeutic grade oils to avoid hurting yourself. I know about leg pain in

the night. You must be in a lot of pain. Good luck!

Deep tissue massage is good, but not the whole answer,

in my opinion and experience.

Deep Muscle relaxation is one of the most effective

programs along with stress reduction that is achieved

using Biofeedback. In less than 5 minutes a scan of

the body will tell you what is possibly causing the

stress and muscle pain in the body, including

deficiencies in diet. By the end of the session most

clients are very relaxed, feeling better and in less

pain. The 3 main processes of Biofeedback are stress

reduction, deep muscle relaxation and pain management.
