Guest guest
When we get colds/flu around our house we use a couple things. Oregano Leaf tincture (natural antibacterial/viral), ginger tea, zinc, vit C and flu bath. Do Not get the Oregano Leaf Oil it is too strong in flavor and actually burns the mouth like fire oil. Muscle test to see how much of the tincture you need, add to water and drink. It's strong so you'll want to chase with juice. Up our dose of Vit C and Zinc, drink hot ginger tea with honey and lemon, dash of cayenne. Ginger and cayenne increase the blood circulation, so you'll feel like you're having a hot flash. You can get ginger tea ready made or use a 1/2 tsp of ground ginger and make your own. Flu bath: this kept me from being admitted to hospital back when the asian flu was rampant in the late 70's) Add to bath water. Should be a hot as you can tolerate. 1 cup epsom salts 1TBS ground ginger 1TBS dry mustard While soaking drink 1 qt tepid (room temperature) water. This will help to make you sweat the toxins out. The steam will also help open up the lungs and sinuses. You will probably feel weak afterwards, which is ok. Get lots of rest and fluids to flush. You may add essential oils such as lavender and eucalyptus is desired. Guest guest
Eat up to two cloves of garlic a day. Dr. Andrew Weil recommends to shorten duration of colds.
Guest guest
Jenny, I was going to mention Vitamin C with some Calcium to help it along. I just don't know the current max dose for it. That seems to change with the day. I know it will make you breath so much easier if you take this every 3-4 hours. The dose I had previously taken was high and then cut back to a normal dose when I felt better. Guest guest
I don't know the dosage either. We use the big chewable disks with rosehips in them I think they're about 500mg. Dr. said to take them 2-3 times per day while sick. They taste good so the kids will eat them. Our old MD used to give everyone coming into her clinic one on each visit. She was the one that got us started on the tea and what she called Killer Cough Drops (Olbas Pastilles herbal cough drops). Guest guest
Terry, If you can get some black seed oil, it will be very helpful. It's a good thing to have in the house. Take one tsp three times a day. This is the best cough remedy I've ever found that works on everyone I know whose tried it. It's antibacterial, anti-fungal, anti-viral, etc. If you can't get it quick try this: I used to find that drinking one glass of fresh-pressed orange juice to be invaluable to preventing colds. A bit late now but there are over 20000 phyto-nutrients along with the Vit C in an orange. For years I took high doses of Vitamin C but if I missed a day I would almost immediately get a cold so I don't believe in taking the pills anymore. Everything works better the way nature intended. For existing colds take a few glasses a day. Garlic and ginger tea may be helpful too. Either use a whole clove or crush it a bit and some ginger. It's hot but it will also help to kill bacteria.
