Can anyone recommend the best (and best tasting) milk substitute?

I've never tried soy milk or rice milk, which is best for you and

which one has a better taste. Thanks in advance for any advice.

Hi. I prefer rice milk to soy milk for the taste and also its lower in protien

(I have kidney issues). I really LOVE the taste of almond milk for a *special*

treat.

firstly- taste is a personal thing-you may love one and dislike the other--why

not try them yourself and see-try them separately and use them in different

ways, on cereal, in coffee, flavoured and draw your own conclusion., it takes a

while to get use to a different taste esp milk but once you are acusstommed to

t -you may never use milk again esp if you are asthmatic. or lactic acid

intollerant

We use Rice Dream in our home ( all 3 flavors ) as my

children are lactose intolerant and allergic to nuts.

Even my granddaughter will drink it over formula.

Jean,

I prefer rice milk. I purchase the " Rice Dream Milk Drink " . It's at

my local store in the organic department's cooler.

Hi Jean and all,

Some might disagree, but from a perspective of hormonal balance, soy

milk (and all soy products) is NOT a good idea for women until closer

to actual menopause (12 full months without a period).

In perimenopause (anywhere from about 35-50) women are usually estrogen

dominant. Soy stimulates estrogen receptors, making your symptoms worst

and contributing to conditions like uterine fibroids, ovarian cysts,

etc.

Also, soy impacts thyroid function which is often compromised during

perimenopause and menopause. Unless you're a woman in menopause or

beyond (without thyroid issues) I would avoid soy milk. And, if you do

use it, be sure it's organic, and NON-GMO.

Have you tried almond milk? You can make your own easily. That way, you

know what's going into it!

Personally I like rice milk. Once you get used to the taste it tastes just

like milk! lol and I am sure it is better for you than soy. Have heard so

many bad things about soy I try to avoid using it.

I hardly ever use cows milk anymore, except maybe in the odd cup of tea.

It depends what you are looking for. Many have great taste. Soy has

complete protein and the most grams per glass. Soy has many health

benefits but as some have already stated it can have an effect on

hormones depending on how much you ingest. I have a friend whose MRI

showed she has pre-cancerous cells in her breasts and so needs to

avoid anything with soy. She was on hormone therapy which might have

caused this and now has to be very careful with anything that can

affect hormones. There are a lot of variables to consider but you

also have to consider women in Japan have been eating lots of soy for

centuries and the Japanese have one of the longest life expectancies

of industrialized countries.

How does soya milk affect your thyroid gland? Ive drunk soya milk now probably

over 2 years and my mother has thyroid trouble... she doesn't drink soya milk

but if it's genetic then maybe i should avoid soya....

I have tried Rice and Almond milks, but they are very 'thin' and

just not all that good.

hi Jean,

Taste is, well, a matter of taste.

So one person's fave beverage is another

person's yuck.

Soy milk has a lot of drawbacks.

It is often made of genetically modified soybeans,

is very cooling to the body, and many people are

allergic to it.

Sally Fallon, author of " nourishing traditions "

classifies it firmly under " newfangled foods " .
