Guest guest
http://www.zlighthouse.org Nutrition, holistic health, yoga & spirit! Note: Please be sure to read the last paragraph of the article about some super easy things we can do to prevent the FDA from taking our health freedom rights away! Latest news: The FDA seizes more than $70,000 worth of supplements and herbal tea, forcing the company to close its doors indefinitely! Well the one thing you can be quite sure of when a natural healing company gets raided by the FDA is that the chances of its product's efficacy is probably quite high! The name of the company is called " FulLife Natural Options, " and, until last week, it sold a product called " Charantea. " The key component is from the fruit " bitter melon. " It's known for its ability to regulate blood sugar and has proven highly effective for individuals with diabetes, anemia and hypertension. The company had a very strong and loyal customer base. Also, just a rhetorical question, but have you heard this story on any of the TV news channels? No, and you probably won't. (Though it may have been reported on a local channel where the company is located in Boca Raton, Florida). The main reason you most likely won't see it on the news, is because they're supported by the big advertisers (i.e. one of whom are the drug companies) who may threaten to pull their ads. The media wouldn't want to take the chance of reporting on this story because consumers would probably be interested in an herbal product that the FDA would spend so much time on and actually seize their inventory. They must have good reason, consumers may think, as in, it might work? So the media avoids these stories at all costs so that they won't lose their big advertisers. Once again, with most of these giant organizations, it's all about money and power! So anyway, federal marshals stormed the property and seized more than $70,000 worth of Charantea from the company for what they call " mislabeling. " Because the company didn't play the game of being as vague as possible about how their products help people and actually told the truth, then that gave the FDA the ability to come after them. Please know, too, that the FDA didn't zone in on them due to unsubstantiated claims about the product's efficacy. There have been more than 200 pre-clinical and clinical trials proving the benefits of Charantea. The FDA keeps a close eye on natural health companies whose products are selling well, because that's a very good sign that their products work which, in this case, was infringing on the profits of the pharmaceutical companies who produce diabetes drugs! The FDA's ultimate goal is to get these products off the market as soon as possible, which is exactly what they're currently doing with " red yeast rice " as well, a natural product that lowers cholesterol. They're forcing companies to remove it from the shelves, because the drug companies are in the process of extracting the main components from the natural product so that they can make it into a hard-core pharmaceutical drug and profit from it! The best way for holistic health companies to avoid encounters with the FDA (and they're never completely safe) is by not saying what minor and/or major diseases that their products can quite possibly cure or at least help. It's really sad that the only companies who can say that they can treat and/or cure a disease are the pharmaceutical companies. What's wrong with this picture? Even though natural healing companies comply (actually they have no choice) with this inane legislation, consumers have gotten quite savvy in reading between the lines regarding the benefits of products. It's one of the reasons that the natural health care industry is booming! It's not from the government's help that's for sure! As holistic health care grows, the FDA is just getting more aggressive! If you're not already aware of this, they have a major campaign going on (that they're trying to keep underground, by the way) called Codex which, if allowed to take effect, means that consumers will have to get a prescription from an M.D. for certain vitamins and other natural healing remedies. This is currently a world-wide effort by numerous governmental agencies to protect the drug companies, and legislation has already passed in several countries, now requiring prescriptions for certain supplements. This is a serious issue and not one to be ignored! Otherwise, Codex will be taking full effect in this country, too. As long as mankind has existed on this planet, we've relied on nature to keep us well and cure us of our ailments. It's only been in the last 100 years or so, in this country anyway, that natural healing has been considered quackery in order to promote the allopathic medical industry. Herbs, in comparison to drugs, are inexpensive and have minimal to no side effects. The FDA is highly aware of this and will use all of their power (and they have a lot) to do their best in not letting natural health companies get a fair share of the market (or any of the market if they had it their way). What's so ridiculous about what they're trying to do is in direct contrast in helping Americans to get healthier. They're just trying to protect the status quo, so that the monopolies in this country who are very wealthy can continue to keep the " lion's share " of the profits for themselves. Unless more Americans, which includes powerful politicians (who are willing to stop accepting contributions from certain mainstream lobbyists) and large organizations, start speaking out, this is only going to get worse. Here's some info about Codex if you'd like to know more. The FDA is slowly, but surely, (and methodically) pulling natural products off the shelves. The company who sold Charantea helped thousands of people to get better! And because of that, they wanted them off the market. It's just that simple, and it's just that sick! Just like in so many other countries, we have aspects of our government who are hurting citizens not helping! Please pass this information along so that more of us can be aware of what the FDA is trying to do in terms of Codex. As mentioned before, they are trying to be as covert as possible about it! If enough Americans get involved and take action (it's as easy as signing an online petition), we can stop it from taking effect in this country! Let's not wait until it's too late and then complain about it later. Guest guest
Amen, amen. I did a blog post on this a few days ago. Fortunately for smart health seekers Bitter Melon is a common Chinese vegetable, so access to it will likely remain. One would have to eat a lot of them to get the equivalent of a cup of tea, and it is awful to see a good company get thrashed. The more consumers turn to effective natural products, the more likely 'They' are to pounce at the slightest provocation. The Charantia website was full of the sort of health claims that the FDA forbids. The fact that they are true has nothing to do with it. I urge all to protest this loudly, AND to become familiar with local plant healers. Local weeds will likely be with us no matter how much the FDA, Health Canada and others of their ilk would like to clamp down. For instance I use a Rainforest formula that supports carbohydrate metabolism, AND I made a half gallon of fall-dug Dandelion root tinctured in organic Apple Cider Vinegar. It doesn't taste too bad mixed with hot water and a spoon of honey. It makes a nice a mid-afternoon pick-me-up. (though frankly I prefer a cup of organic Lapsang Souchong) Dandelion root has more pancreas supporting properties in fall, and more liver supporting properties in spring. Awesome plant, one of the loves of my life! Guest guest
It's a little more complicated than that. If you make medicinal claims on your products, you come under the control of the FDA. If you claim to help medical conditions, your product is considered a drug. To be considered a legal drug, your product has to pass a strict rigorous process of testing and be approved by the FDA. For companies on small budgets such as small herbal companies, the cost may be too prohibitive. However convoluted it has gotten, the purpose of this system is to protect the public from substances such as thalidamide which devastated a generation of new mothers with defective children. Like it or not, there are bad players in even the herbal and supplement industries. Unfortunately there have also been bad players in the FDA, as recent headlines have demonstrated. The long standing loophole has been to sell your product as a food supplement and allow literature outside your company describe its benefits. It sounds like this company either got greedy or intended to challenge the FDA either in the media or in court. Guest guest
I think that Big Pharma is behind all of these attacks on natural health professionals and information.
