Guest guest
Hi everyone, I have read many, many books on health and nutrition and they all say that an alkaline body is healthier and I have been doing just that for quite some years now. However, I am re-reading Dr. Jarvis' book on Vermont folk medicine or whatever he calls it, and he insists that to be healthy, the body needs to be acidic and recommend the apple cider vinegar for that. Could anyone clarify this for me? I am now extremely confused as his theory makes a lot of sense. Thanks. Guest guest
Maria I don't know about others' metabolism, but I know for sure, that keeping my body in an acid state works. I drink a HUGE glass of fresh orange juice every morning and drink water with real lemon (REAL lemon not the brand) juice in it throughout the day. I have always said orange juice is my life blood. Guest guest
Often when a client is too acidic, citric acid is recommended as it changes to alkaline in the body. Guest guest
Hi there, A huge glass of orange juice doesn't keep your body acidic - quite the opposite. Yes, I know the juice contains citric acid, but after being processed by the body, the remaining 'ash' is alkaline, which is what the body needs. Apple Cider Vinegar is also alkaline after processing. Your blood has a pH level of between 7.35 and 7.45. Any value less than 7 is acidic and any value higher than 7 is alkaline, so the blood is slightly alkaline. This value must be maintained, so that if your diet is acidic, as most are, the body has to neutralise the acid, and it can do this in the last resort by leaching calcium from the bones. If you need any more info, just ask. Guest guest
The correct Ph should be between 6.5 to 7.0. If you are above 70 you are alkaline, below 65 acidic. If acidic, citric acid supplements or citrus juices can benefit. If alkaline potassium and magnesium supplements will benefit. Ph can be out of balance because of malabsorbtion issues...deficiencies in Minerals and essential Fatty Acids. Guest guest
Good info Mike! An easy way to help maintain a healthy PH throughout the day is to drink pure water with a wedge of lemon... and lots of it! Michelle http://www.HolisticMenopause.com This value must be maintained, so that if your diet is acidic, as most are, the body has to neutralise the acid, and it can do this in the last resort by leaching calcium from the bones. Guest guest
Oh wow, thanks so much for explaining that. Very interesting. PH is very interesting to me. Thanks. Guest guest
Thanks for your message, Marsha! I have read that citrus fruits, though acidic on ingesting become alkalizing. So I think you are alkalizing your body. I may be totally mistaken, though. Anyone else could explain this discrepancy in thought? Guest guest
*** Yes, I have also heard that the acidic lemon juice when contacted with saliva, it becomes alkalzed.

Guest guest
Studies have shown that an acid environment allows cancer cells to grow but they wont grow in an alkaline environment. Alot of cancer patients have been told to go on a strict alkaline diet as it inhibits the growth of tumours. pjb12345uk <pho wrote: ---edgar cayce ahd a lot to say on this aspect to the effect that if a body was a little alkaline it would ward off many diseseases a confusing point are the words alkaline forming phill In , " Dr. Maria Moratto " <drmoratto wrote: > > Hi everyone, > I have read many, many books on health and nutrition and they all > say that an alkaline body is healthier and I have been doing just > that for quite some years now. > However, I am re-reading Dr. Jarvis' book on Vermont folk > medicine or whatever he calls it, and he insists that to be > healthy, the body needs to be acidic and recommend the apple > cider vinegar for that. > Could anyone clarify this for me? Guest guest
Ok. You all agree with my position about alkalinizing the body. Because of this, I went back to Dr. Jarvis book and he says that it is the urine that has to show acidic and not alkaline when doing the PH test. Do you think that even though the body is alkaline the urine still show acidic? This is still puzzling me. Just bought some Enzymedica pH strips at the Vitamin Cottage. It's early afternoon and neither my husband or myself have eaten anything at time of testing. I tested 7.0 saliva and 7.5 urine, so I assume I'm in a good alkaline area. My husband tested 7.5 saliva, but his urine reading was 5.5. He drinks a lot of orange, pomegranate juices, etc. so I'm surprised he's so acidic. My question is how his readings can so far apart, and which reading should we honor? Guest guest
It could be a lack of hydration concentrating the urine, mineral imbalance particularly magnesium and potassium, which will show acidic even though Alkaline is ok. Acid should be between 6.0 & 6.5, Alkaline should be between 7.0 & 7.5.
