Ann Louise Gittleman reknown nutritionist suggests the

40-30-30 plan where 40% of calories come from low

glycemic index carbs, 30% from good fats such as

olive, coconut and sesame oils, and 30% from lean

protiens. Add to that 70% of diet is alkaline and 30%

Acidic foods. Type II diabetes comes from over

stressing the adrenal glands usually via poor diet and

excess stress. Stress reduction, exercize and

meditation will be an extra bonus in helping to manage

and reduce symptoms.

A low glycemic diet utilizing natural foods . . . no, absolutely zero,

processed or packaged foods, no white foods and you have to eliminate

all refined sugar from your diet. Also, increase your exercise by

walking ---start slowly and increase daily even if it's only by a few

feet.

I have been diabetic, type II, for 8 years. I tried everything.

Didn't work. Had to go on insulin. I tried the glycemic index bit and

30/40/30 and other variations. Didn't do the job. Dr. Mercola got me

started on help, but then I got books by Dr. Bernstein, and Dr. Frank

Shallenberger and that got me more progress with lower carbs. When i

got to the paleo diets and related things, i finally was able to

bring down my blood sugars to normal with my insulin, which I was

unable to do even with huge doses before. I was also able to reduce

my A1C test from 8.9 (not so hot) to 6.9, which is low enough to be

considered good, tho not good enough for me.

At this point I have been able to cut my insulin in half, lose

weight, and a recent time forgetting to take my insulin which rarely

happens, my blood sugars were not that bad - my pancreas has revived

and can now do part of the job. Before, each time I took my blood

sugar in a day it was higher than the last time. Now it goes up and

down as it should. My goal is to get off insulin altogether and

basically reverse my illness. I think I can do this or come close.

But the way I did it, and for now, I can't eat any sugar at all, no

grains, no potatoes, no pasta, not even beans and lentils, despite

their lower glycemic index. I use my test meter a lot and if you eat

the food then take your blood sugar an hour later, then two hours

later, you can see what's happening to your blood sugar with the food

you are eating. Sweet fruit is out - I make jam from tart fruit,

slightly underripe and sweeten it with xylitol, an expensive but

natural sugar alcohol that's actually good for the body. I make bread

from almond flour and flax meal - you can cook it in a steamer (it

stays gooey if baked conventionally) and it slices and toasts but is

very low-cal (tho not low fat). But nuts are good for you. I had to

give up milk because the milk sugar ran me too high. I eat

glucomannan noodles (miracle noodles) and they aren't too bad. The

ones that have tofu in them are better. I can't too much of starchy

or sweet vegetables - not too many carrots, only a little winter

squash, tho a small serving works, no yams, no sweet corn, etc. It's

kind of extreme, but here is the good news.

You don't necessarily have to do this forever. I am able now to eat a

small portion of new potatoes and a bit more of this and that. Still

no grains etc., but it's a real improvement. As my pancreas recovers,

I will be able to eat more things that are reasonable - still not a

lot of grains, no sugar, etc., but much better than now. It's amazing

how quickly this works. I have not been quite a year yet. I eat a lot

of protein, which I appear to need. I am aware not everyone's system

is identical, but diabetes does tend to indicate carb problems. I am

able to use butter and coconut oil freely. I eat cheese (tho I am

allergic to cow milk and have to eat goat or sheep). My health in

general has improved despite serious illness problems and all I can

say is that there is hope with diabetes. Don't give up. And if you

can get things into shape in a few years, you will not have to have

quite such strenuous restrictions for the rest of your life. Best of

all, you won't have the trends towards heart disease and other

problems of diabetes, including being more cancer prone.

Hope this is help to someone.

Hi Thea,

That's great news. Best wishes on continued

improvment.

My question is this...what stressor or stressors is

causing the pancreas problems? Which is still causing

stress?

When the body organs get over stressed, by whatever

the body considers as stress, the organs begin to

break down and quit working as well as they should or

they stop all together.

So if changing your diet etc is not completely

resolving the stressor, then there is another

underlying issue that has not been addressed.

In working with clients on stress reduction and

rebalancing the body, I have found this to be the case

in almost every situation.

i am also a diabetic person (hereditary but controlled) i am not sure

what is diabetic 2(is it insulin dependent?).what i know little

preventive measure is the use of bittergourd leaves as tea.thisbitter

leaves when boiled will help to control the blood sugar in the body

and may help the heal of wounds.the warm mild climate of a certaIN

areas may help the body to perspire easily and favorable in a person

with diabetes cause the calories will be burned and converted into

energy.the chromium element in some multivit/mineral capsule will

boost the body metabolism aiding the body to convert calories/sugar

instead becoming stored fats or sugar in the blood.

Tye 2 Diabetes is also known as DIABETES MELLITUS

IT IS THE FAILURE OF THE PANCREAS TO PRODUCE

INSULIN FOR THE BODY....

PARACELSUS (1493-1541), A Doctor, a Chemist

and a rebel carried out a remarkable experiment.

HE EVAPORATED ONE LITRE OF URINE OF A DIAB

AND OBTAINED 4 OZS OF A WHITE POWDER WHICH

HE THOUGHT WAS SALT AND IT WAS THIS SALT WHICH

PRODUCED THIRST OF KIDNEYS AND POLYURIA...

EXCESSIVE URINATION AND LOSS OF SUGAR.

BUT IT WAS LATER PROVED THAT THIS WAS SUGAR

AND NOT SALT.

BITTER GOURD IS A TRADITIONAL FOLK MEDICINE

FOR DIABETICS. IT CONTAINS A HYPOGLYCAEMIC

OR INSULIN-LIKE PRINCIPLE, DESIGNATED AS

'PLANT INSULIN' WHICH IS HIGHLY BENEFICIAL

IN LOWERING THE BLOOD AND URINE SUGAR LEVELS.

THE JUICE OF FOUR OR FIVE FRUITS SHOULD BE

TAKEN ON AN EMPTY STOMACH EVERY MORNING.

BITTER GOURD BEING RICH IN ALL THE ESSENTIAL

VITAMINS, SPECIALLY VITAMIN A, B1, B2 C AND

IRON CAN BE TAKEN ON A REGULAR BASIS EACH

MORNING AND THIS WILL PREVENT MANY COMPLI-

CAIONS LIKE HYPERTENSION, EYE COMPLICATIONS,

NEUTRITIS AND DEFECTIVE METABOLISM OF CARBO-

HYDRATES. IT THUS INCREASES THE BODY'S

RESISTANCE AGAINST INFECTIONS. BOTANICAL

NAME : MONORDICA CHARANTIA.

ANOTHER TRADITIONAL FOLD MEDICINE FOR

DIABETICS IS THE JAMBAL FRUIT OR BLUE BERRY,

BOT. NAME : SYZYGIUM CUMINI OR EUGENIA JAMBO-

LINA. IT IS CONSIDERED A SPECIFIC FOOD FOR

DIABETICS BECAUSE OF ITS EFFECT ON THE PANCREAS

THE FRUIT,SEEDS AND FRUIT JUICE ARE ALL VERY

USEFUL IN THE TREATMENT OF DIABETICS. THE SEEDS

CONTAIN A GLUCOSE 'JAMBOLINE' WHICH IS BELIEVED

TO HAVE THE POWER TO CHECK THE PATHOLOGICAL

CONVERSION OF STARCH INTO SUGAR IN CASES OF

INCREASED PRODUCTION OF GLUCOSE. THE SEEDS ARE

POWDEERED AND DRIED AND KEPT IN A CLEAN AIR-

TIGHT BOTTLE. THREE GRAMS OF THIS POWDER

SHOULD BE GIVEN THREE TO FOUR TIMES A DAY AT

RUGULAR TIMINGS MIXED WITH WATER. TIMINGS TO

BE FOLLOWED STRICTLY. EXAMPLE 6 AM ON AN EMPTY

STOMACH. AFTER HALF AN HOUR BREAKFAST, 12 NOON

HALF AN HOUR BEFORE MEALS, 4 PM HALF HOUR

BEFORE TEA (WITHOUT SUGAR), AND 8 PM HALF HOUR

BEFORE DINNER. IT REDUCES THE QUANTITY OF SUGAR

IN URINE AND ALLAYS THE UNQUENCHABLE THIRST.

THE JAMBUL FRUIT CONTAINS CALCIUM 15mg, PHOSPO-

RUS 15 mg. IRON 1.2 mg, VITAMIN C 18 mg, SMALL

AMOUNTS OF VITAMIN B COMPLEX. CALORIFIC VALUE

62.

WE SHALL PROVIDE A CHART WHICH WILL PROVIDE

THE DAYS INTAKE OF 1500 CALORIES DIET FOR

BOTH VEG AND NON-VEG DIABETICS. PL.SEND YOUR

REQUEST.

MANY OTHER TRADITIONAL FOLK MEDICINES FOR

DIABETICS LIKE THE INDIAN GOOSEBERRY. BOTANICAL

NAME : EMBLICA OFFICINALIS (INDIAN NAME; AMLA)

IT IS THE GREATEST GIFT OF GOD AND NATURES

MOST PRECIOUS GIFT TO MAN. IT IS THE RICHEST

NATURAL SOURCE OF VITAMIN C WHICH IS READILY

ASSIMILATED BY THE HUMAN SYSTEM. IT CONTRIBUTES

GREATLY TOWARDS HEALTH AND LONGIVITY. CALCIUM

50 mg. PHOSPHOROUS 20 mg. IRON 1.2 mg.

VITAMIN C 600 mg. SMALL AMOUNTS OF VITAMIN

B COMPLEX. CALORIFIC VALUE 48

THE INDIAN GOOSEBERRY IS CHIEFLY VALUED FOR ITS

HIGH VITAMIN C CONTENT. THE VITAMIN C VALUE

OF AMLA INCREASES FURTHER WHEN THE JUICE IS

EXTRACTED FROM THE FRUIT. THE DEHYDRATED BERRY

PROVIDES 2428 TO3470 mg, OF VITAMIN C PER 100

GRAMS. EVEN WHEN IT IS DRIED IN THE SHADE AND

THEN TURNED INTO POWDER IT RETAINS AS MUCH AS

1780 TO 2660 mgs of VITAMIN C.

THE BEST WAY TO TAKE IT WITH THE LEAST LOSS OF

THIS HIGH VALUE OF VITAMIN C 600 mg IS TO EAT

RAW WITH A PINCH OF SALT. ONE FRUIT EACH

MORNING HALF AN HOUR BEFORE BREAKFACT ON AN

EMPTY STOMACH SHOULD BE TAKEN. JUST PUT IT

IN THE MOUTH WITH A PINCH OF SALT AND SLOWLY

BITE AND SUCK THE JUICE INTIL YOU GET THE SEED.

A DIABETIC SHOULD NEVER TAKE A FULL DIET AT

ANY ONE TIME BUT SPREAD IT EVENLY EVERY TWO

HOURS WHICH THE CHART WILL SHOW AND HE/SHE

SHOULD NOT SLEEP DURING THE DAYTIME AND WALK

AT LEAST TWO KM PER DAY TO KEEP FIT AND THUS

MAINTAIN NORMAL HEALTH. THE PRACTICE OF SLEEP

DURING THE DAYTIME SHOULD BE GRADUALLY REDUCED

TILL YOU SLEEP NO MORE DURING THE DAY.

THERE IS MUCH FOOD FOR THOUGHT IN THIS MESSAGE

AND I DO HOPE READERS WILL SURELY MAKE THE

BEST OF IT BY FOLLOWING IT CAREFULLY WHICH IS

BOUND TO BEAR FRUITFUL AND LONGSTANDING RESULTS.

Hi. I have been diabetic for 16 years. I have tried a few various herbal

remedies but didnt see results, maybe I just didnt have the patience. I had my

first (and only) child a year and a half ago. The strain of the pregnancy along

with the long standing diabetes was too much for my kidneys. I finally (DUH)

decided I needed to do something about this. I went on a vegan diet for a month

to test it out. I cam off the insulin (first time in 12 years) and the protien

leaking into my urine dropped by HALF! Going vegan isnt for everyone, I know it

is hard to do and maintain. All the studies I have seen though, it has been

proven effective for everyone. Good sites to check out are:

http://www.pcrm.org/health/

http://www.drmcdougall.com/index.html

Just wanted to add my 2 cents.

~*~Namaste~*~

Stephanie

Sorry, no. Diabetes Type I is caused by a failure of the body to produce

insulin. In Type II Diabetes, the body produces enough insulin, however,

the cells become resistant to their own insulin. This is known as " insulin

resistance. "

I do take blueberry leaf extract, cinnamon, and now that my pancreas is

partly rebuilt, gymnema, also some fenugreek. But I don¹t really take them

religiously, only when my blood sugar goes a bit high or doesn¹t keep coming

down as I want.

I know there are a lot of herbal possibilities to add to diet, but I took

them without changing my diet and they didn¹t work.
