Guest guest
I am NOT a Dr. THIS IS NOT MEDICAL ADVICE! Please consult your MD for everything. I thought the information in the book being sited was interesting. I know there are many people out there struggling with mood disorders, if not members than friends or loved ones so I thought I'd share something that I recently read. According to the late Dr. Atkins Mood disorders can be caused in part by an unhealthy diet. " Since the advent of the ultra-low-fat diet, which fails to provide enough omega-3 oils for healthy brain function and good mood levels, EPA and DHA have become critically important to the treatment of depression. I perscribe them routinely for all mood disorders, Depression is more strongly correlated with coronary artery disease than any other personality variable, probably because both conditions are caused by lack of omega-3s. " pg. 208 in Dr. Atkins' Vita-Nutrient Solution. That being said, I think there are many diet issues that may possibly cause or irritate depression and anxiety( Hypoglycemia, dehydration, vitamin deficiency, alchoholism, sugar subtitutes, the list goes on.) In many cases there may possibly be a physical root cause (thyroid, hormones, disease, infections, etc.) For those struggling with any mood disorder, please do a lot of research and get a lot of tests to rule things out while continuing medical treatment and you may eventually find your answers. If your Dr.is not helping you. Switch Dr.s. A lot of people are reluctant to do this but a new Dr. may be more helpful. Just DON'T DISCONTINUE medical care. My experience with this whole mood disorder thing is that I do not have depression although I had anxiety for a long time. The Drs said they were the same thing. Wrong in MY case. The MDs wanted me on drugs but they made me feel worse. I changed my diet and got great results. The two biggest culprits for ME were caffine and aspartame. I don't do either anymore except the small amount of caffine from chocolate. I rarely get anxiety or get in a funk but when I do, I eat tuna fish and dark chocolate(no,not as a sandwich). It is an immediate pick me up. Omega-3s from the fish and dopomine from the chocolate work wonders for me. My daughter had severe anxiety also. It turned out that she had Lyme disease and the only symptom was anxiety (no bite,no rash, nothing). I MADE the Dr do full blood workup. Glad I did. She was put on antibiotics for the Lyme for one month and no more anxiety. Infections can wreak havoc on your WHOLE body.Sometimes you have to be pushy with Dr.s. Guest guest
Interesting about your daughter. I'd like to know what you said to your Dr. to get a full blood work up and what that means exactly. Thanks. , " naturalhealthmom " <naturalhealthmom wrote: > > I am NOT a Dr. THIS IS NOT MEDICAL ADVICE! Please consult your MD for > everything.
