Guest guest
Hello, I joined here and have just been reading the responces and hoping maybe someone would have answers to my issues. I currently dont have health insurance so getting meds is an issue for me. Back in August of 2003 I was diagnoised with Sjogren's Syndrome as well as Iron deficency. Sjogrens is an auto immune disease that attacks the wet cells of the body. Currently I have only one really sever issues and that is the eyes. They have gotten worse and feel like someone has thrown sand in them everyday. The sjogren's can be an pre indicator of rhumatoid arthritis as well as " lupus " and some forms of slerodrema. In sjogrens the immune system lacks the usual controls causing the white cells to invade glands in the body that produce moisture. They can destroy the glands and cause them to stop producing moisture. It can also affect the joints as well as other organs of the body. Then I have the iron deficency which I have been unable to use iron supplements as they make me sick. My questions here are other then supplements and medicine from the doctors which I dont really want to add more meds to my already numerous ones I take, does anyone know of natural alternatives to help with some of theses symtoms. Thanks Jen
Guest guest
The key words in what you write are " the additional meds you already take " . Now .. I have first hand experience with Sjogrens with my partner. Her condition was brought about by meds in the first place due to the miss-diagnosis of the symptoms that were underlying it. She was prescribed Plaquenil which resulted in a massive MS attack. Her Sjogrens was brought about by the use of SSRI's as antidepressants when she actually had an issue with her nervous system. The condition that was not diagnosed is now known as vasal vagal syndrome .. essentially, the sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous systems were not talking to each other .. and the vagus nerve was not talking properly to the heart, lungs, stomach .. it is known that, when taking certain antidepressants when you have this condition, the result is Sjogren's symptoms. So .. based on this, I may be able to offer you some suggestions .. but first .. what are the other meds you are on and what symptoms (conditions) are you on them for? Lets start there .. if you will .. ? I know Sjogren's is not pleasant .. but I also know that what it can lead to if it is a miss diagnosis can be even worse; I spent 18 months kicking the MD's around before I finally got an MS Specialist, Neurologist and Cardiologist to agree that it was a combination of wrong diagnosis and wrong medication that led to my partner's present condition ... and that all resulted from the original doctors not looking at her complete past medical condition from birth. Guest guest
From a dietary perspective.... eating a lot of broccoli, and dark leafy greens, spinach, kale, beet greens, turnip greens, collard greens.. etc are great iron sources outside of red meats. Vit C is required in addition to the iron-rich foods in order to enhance absorption. Therefore, have with a glass of 100% vitamin C juice or other good source (broccoli has both). Use cast iron cookware, some iron is imparted into the foods. Stay away from traditional coffee and tea, as this blocks absorption. I worked with a gal who had Sjogren's. She constantly had a half gallon drinking glass. Good question about the eyes. Hopefully someone else will respond. Warm Regards, Linda
Guest guest
Re: New here-Sjogren's Syndrome Hi Jen, 1)I used to work for Head Start. When families were in need of iron and could not afford the pills or were having negative effects from them, I would recommend that they go back to using cast iron cookware. You will get more than enough iron this way and the body will pick up about 10% of it to use. Iron levels fell in the USA after WWII when people stopped using cast iron cookware. 2) Keep your eyes moist at all times. Even raise the humidity in your home if you need to. 3) Problems with the fluids of the body come from the 2nd chakra of the 7 centers of energy. Esp. true of arthritis. Hatha yoga may be helpful, or swimming. And yoga breathing and meditation. Also see an acupuncturist and/or a chi kung healer from China. Rife treatments may help or a MWO. If you do not have a Rife machine and cannot afford one, send me an e-mail and I will send you my paper on using your computer as a Rife type frequency generator. For MWO, check at vibemachine.com to see who has one near you that you can use. Other things that you can try are veg. juicing and other greens. Check in a health food store for Greens+, Greens 7 or similar products. Try Cell Food drops. Try Miracle II products, see e-bay. Guest guest
-Hyaluronic acid will bring moisture into your cells,I take the caps as directed on bottle. (It is anti aging for the skin.) Wash your eyes with strong eyebright tea and you can add a little Bilberry tea also. Bilberry is wild blueberry. Drink it and wash eyes with an eye cup, hopefully available at your pharmacy. Wash eyes as often as needed. You can add a pinch of salt to the tea that you use for washing the eyes, It will be a saline solution then. Hope this will help blessings, cecile -- In , " horsemans_angel " <horsemans_angel wrote: > > Hello, > I joined here and have just been reading the responces and hoping > maybe someone would have answers to my issues. Guest guest
I had a bout of Sjogren's about 10 years ago. I have fibromyalgia/chronic fatigue and the doctor had me taking daily doses of naproxin for the pain. It came on slowly over a period of months. Since other meds were already causing dry mouth and eyes, at first I just assumed they were from that. Eventually, my mouth was so dry I couldn't swallow food without a sip of water at the same time; in fact, I needed the Heimlich twice. My eyes felt like they were going to pop right out of my head and the pain...the worst fibro pain I'd ever had. I finally went into the doc and they had to call in a specialist and even then they couldn't figure out what was the problem until I remembered the naproxin. It took more research but they found that a VERY uncommon side-effect of the naproxin was a drying of the mucus membranes. As soon as I stopped the naproxin, within a few days, it all went away. Any how, the reason I went into all this detail was to point out that something else you are taking may be exacerbating the problem. Ask if anything you are taking comes from the same family as naproxin. Good luck... -- Catherine www.thetreewithinhealingctr.net
Guest guest
Someone may or may not have already posted this at one point, since I am new, I wouldn't know, but I do know that folks w/fibromyalgia do well to take calcium/magnesium supplements. About 1000 of calcium to 400 to 500 of magnesium. Or, if you take 2000 of calcium, then 800 of magnesium. This is, of course, just what I have learned from reading. A doctor's advise is always best.
