Guest guest
Maria... I was out gardening on Sunday, and I had to come in. I must have 50 mosquito bites and am having worse time I have ever had with them. I am very susceptible. I tried plantain and yellow dock wash and that did not work, tried an itch ointment , pennyroyal and none of that worked. Tried bathing area in nuka bran, nothing. The itch has been out of control and the area where I am bitten is all red and inflamed The only thing that helped me is this.. I bath with Jewelweed soap which I purchase from Altnature. I then spray with Jewelweed everywhere there are bites. Right now there are bites on back of neck, front of neck, down the neck, arms and legs. Nothing on face. During day I use the Jewelweed salve and today is first day I have some relief. If an area starts to itch, during day at work, I apply the jewelweed salve on it immediately. Hope this can be of some help for you. My diet is clean, so that should hopefully help me heal better. If anyone has any other remedies, would be most interested to hear them. I have been in Florida for 30 years and this is the worse mosquito situation I have ever seen. Guest guest
Yes jewelweed should be in every house for first aid. It is great for poison ivy also. Guest guest
To Maria and Diane, I live in Florida too. I bought something called the bug button at Big Lots. Two in a package for $1.00. It is a small button with Citronella Oil on it. I wear it when I walk my dog and rarely ever see mosquitoes. Or try www.bugbutton.com I keep it sealed in a baggie when I'm not using it and it lasts a long time. They say it is waterproof, non toxic and lasts up to 175 hours. You could also make one. Put some citronella oil on a piece of cloth and pin it on your chest or back while you are outside. Guest guest
What a great day! I finally found Nosquito, the repellent device on sale for $20 at K-Mart. Not sure how it will work, but I can swear I have had much fewer bites today! Also went to the Farmers Market and bought 2 basil plants and 1 lemon grass, which are now strategically placed in the places I stay the most. Almost forgot: Also bought some tea candles so I can put citronella oil when I am at my computer or reading in my living room. Wondering if there is anything to put on the floor as the mosquitoes seem to love to bite my feet! I am expecting at least one to work. Thanks everyone. I continue welcoming suggestions. Guest guest
Re:Mosquitoes Here is more info on non toxic ways to control mosquitoes. I was in a Big Lots Store in Florida(usa) and they get products from Target Stores. They had an insect repellent called BugBand. No Deet. Tested at the University of Florida. Time released Geraniol plus Mint and Rosemary. It is good for mosquitoes, fleas, gnats, ticks and no-see-ums. Its a lotion without alcohol. See: wwwbugband.net for more info. Guest guest
So very interesting this BugBand. I will keep it in my files for when it gets warmer again and the mosquitoes attack again.
