Guest guest
Well I stopped smoking little over 3 weeks ago by using the Chantix , but I'm coughing like crazy , really bad at night. My family DR is aware of this and says it is normal for some ppl to cough after stopping to smoke....the body is emptying out it's internal ash tray , so to speak. I went for a chest xray a few days before I started the smoking program , and the xray results were fine. Any one have a home remedy for something that may ease my cough/ tickle in my throat? Thank you.....BOB in PA
Guest guest
Hi Bob, I quit smoking about 18 months ago and I still cough more than those around me. When I first quit it was terrible. I felt as though there was a wad of choking glue in my throat that I could not cough up and it bothered me constantly. My doctor had to clue of anything to help it except time. It was so bad I almost began smoking again because this type of thing never happened when I smoked but I perservered thank God. I still get that choking/gluey feeling in my throat and it is still very annoying though it happens much more rarely. If anyone knows what could help that I would also appreciate any advice. As for regular coughing without that sensation I use some honey & water and it seems to help ease it. WAY TO GO on quitting. Hang in there, it gets easier and it is well worth it. Guest guest
Hi Bob, My aunt, who smokes, recently bought a bottle of therapeutic grade peppermint oil (Young Living) and puts a drop in her palm, rubs her hands together and inhales. She's noticed that her coughing has diminished substantially. Perhaps that would help your cough. You might also try some relaxed, deep breathing to help expel toxins via your lungs. Thyme tea also helps reduce cough. Might be good to help you sleep. Guest guest
Hi Bob, If your cough aggrevates at night after sleep you can take Homoeo medicine called Marc Sol - 30c 3 drops 4 times a day and you must take during bed time also. Your problem will be answered. But if your starts immediately after touching your head in the pillow, then you take Croton Tig - 200c daily at 11 am and 8 p.m. You will get all the relief that you asking for. If the cough is otherwise, then narrate it with particular stage of aggrevation to subratadashomoeo for adequate prescription. Guest guest
Hi Bob - I don't know if this would help, but it probably would be worth a try. I used to have a bad, chronic cough. Never smoked, but my Dad was a 3-pack-a-day smoker for all of my childhood. Anyway, one year when the cough came back, I tried B & T Homeopathic Bronchial Syrup. That stuff is amazing! There is a daytime and nighttime version; both work wonders. Before, I couldn't get a night's sleep because I'd cough so bad. With B & T syrup, I did fine. On top of that, after a few times, I never have needed it - or anything else for a cough. Since I had to survive these coughs at least once a year, that feels almost like a miracle to me. Of course, I bumped up my health in other ways, too, but I'm sure B & T syrup was a big help. Guest guest
I quit by using Wellbutrin. I tried for 20 years to quit using many and various methods. In the end I figured the cigarettes were far worse than Wellbutrin. It was still hard but for once in my life it was actually DOABLE. I have been off cigarettes for 18 months now and although I still want one now and then, I don't have that lingering desire that won't go away. If he opts for the Wellbutrin, he should begin taking it at least 4 weeks before quitting so that it can get into his system. If mentioning Wellbutrin is inappropriate for this forum please forgive me. I found nothing that helped more and I was desperate. > My husband is a chain smoker, could u pl let me know > of any medicine which could help him quit smoking. Guest guest
One more home remedy that works to cut the mucus -- take a clove of garlic and mince fine (or put through a garlic press). Mix (the entire clove) with a couple of tablespoons of honey and take when you go to bed. It will burn a little going down if you are not used to raw garlic! But this really seems to cut the mucus. Also, be sure to drink your water! Congrats on quitting smoking. That is a milestone to celebrate in your life! Guest guest
Wellbutrin can help for some people but the side effects can be devastaing. My step-mom(one of the nicest people I've ever met in my life) took it to help quit smoking. It made her anxious, shaky nervous and an insomniac. Because of the shaking, she fell down some stairs, broke some ribs, developed pnemonia and died. Hardly worth quitting smoking if you wind up dead sooner. My bio mother also took Wellbutrin to quit smoking and became paroniod and violent. She still smokes off and on. I guess everyone has different experiences. just wanted to let you all know about potential side-effects.Everyone quits smoking in their own time. They have to have a REAL desire to do it. Cold turkey may be best. kismetsmine <kismetsmine wrote: I quit by using Wellbutrin. I tried for 20 years to quit using many and various methods.
