Guest guest
Okay guys, Can definitely use some good ideas here. How do you get rid of ants and flies w/o using insecticides like Raid? The latter gets me sick to my stomach, and after all of the information that's been coming out of the wood work over the past few years, my reaction doesn't surprise me. Has anyone heard of using Boron for ants? Many thanks in advance, Melissa
Guest guest
I use Peppermint tea. Works like a charm. Open the tea bags and sprinkle the area or just lie them where necessary. Either way works(you may have to open the bags to put the tea in small spaces). For insects on your deck(outside living areas) you can try a lemon balm plant, basil plants and marigolds. You could also make an all purpose garlic spray (garlic and water) Bugs hate garlic. Hope some of these suggestions are useful. Guest guest
We have had a terrible fly problem this year - My husband got online and looked into natural " predators " for them. There are these tiny little wasps that you can get (they're not the kind of wasps that sting you, they are itty bitty little things). Anyway, they hatch and eat the fly larvae. You put them in areas where you have flies. Because we have a large dog that contributes to the problem we have put them in the back yard close to sources of waste, or where waste has been. It has made a HUGE difference in the flies. We also put out the old fashioned fly paper and you can buy fly traps that you will with water and hang in the trees, which also has worked well. Really, the problem was like something out of a horror movie, but now we have very few flies. They will set you up on a regular shipment program so that youcan continue to keep the problem under control. I'm sorry, but right now I don't know the name of the company, but will find out from him if you don't have any luck. Ants have been another huge problem and I've seen alot of postings online about diatemaceous earth as a method for dealing with pests in general. Anyway, hope this helps. Guest guest
Use white vinegar in a spray bottle. It takes a few applications to work, but they don't come back. Vinegar is also non-toxic and completely safe. Boron is the ingredient in Boric Acid, which is sold as a " safe " insecticide. But if you read the label it says to keep it away from children and pets. How safe could it be? Guest guest
My mother-in-law used boric acid and sugar in an old mayonaise lid placed under her fridge(to the back) to control roaches. The roaches eat the sugar coating their bodies in the sugar mixture, taking it back to the nest where the babies eat the sugar mixture of the parents body..effectively killing them in the nest. I would assume this would also work with fleas. Boric acid is safe in small doses, but becomes toxic in large amounts.
