Too Much Iron

One of my best friends is very sick. His chest and back now have skin

discolorations. And yes, he drinks way to much alcohol.

His body is storing too much iron in his liver lungs etc. His wife says

that his iron count is 889 when it should normally be 322. Any advice?

She is afraid that what ever she feeds him will be the wrong thing. The

doctor said citric drinks between meals little to no red meat, and no

dark green veggies.

They are going to do a biopsy this Friday. And he has to give a pint of

blood I think twice a week to get the iron down. When he gives blood he

is dizzy and white afterwards.

Any advice Please.

Susan

Is there an alternative way to treat this? What should he take?

There are a few natural remedies that are supposed to

be useful for too much iron.

First, the herb cilantro is an excellent chelator. In

addition to chelating out iron it also can chelate out

other metals such as mercury and aluminum.

There is a supplement called IP-6 (I believe it is

made from red yeast rice) which is supposed to be good

for those with excess iron. It should be taken apart

from meals, as it can also remove certain minerals you

should be getting from your food, like magnesium, etc.

Finally, tea is known to reduce iron levels (without

milk). People with low iron levels have been found to

often be tea drinkers. The tannins in the tea bind to

the iron.

This is a serious condition. Sounds like there is a possibility your friend

has Hemachromatosis. It is a genetic disorder where your body takes on too

much iron. The only control & I say control since there is no cure for it at

this point is the blood donations. Possibly chelation therapy would be of

some assistance in the event his iron overload isnt from the genetic disease

but the levels are too high to be easily reversed without more drastic

measures.. The weakness & palour are probably due to not getting the mix

right regarding how much blood to remove at a time. It is completely

necessary since the excess iron allowed to remain in the system causes

permanent damage to the body systems & is eventually fatal. This is a hot

button for me since my Mom died from complications due to this disease.

They are doing a biopsy to determine the iron saturation in his tissue. Not

all doctors recognise this as a legitimate ailment. That is part of the

problem. The only 100 % diagnosis is to have genetic testing done to see if

he has the genetic markers. There are 2 defective site location. Things he

needs to watch for down the road are bronze diabetes, heart issues &

deteriorating joints. Men are hit harder in some respects than woman since

they don't have a menstrual cycle to tone down the impact. Good luck with

it. Hopefully he doesn't have the genetic form.

Or AFA blue green algae in capsules, which I recommend first doing some

acidophilus and enzymes in order to absorb well. All 3 are beneficial in many

ways.

The problem is she is getting blood due to cancer treatments and is building

iron. She is going to try the supplements that were recommended. Many thanks to

everyone. Debbi
