Guest guest
I recently had a relative suggest taking whey powder as a supplement...what does whey powder do for you? Pros and cons? I know very little about this and would appreciate any suggestions for/against/whatever regarding this stuff. Thanks!! Alex
Guest guest
Whey powder is an Alkaline food and is an excellent source of protien and calcium. It is made from the liquid left over after processing cheese and other dairy products. Unlike those products, whey does usually cause or contribute to food allergies or sensitivities. And individuals with lactose intolerance can also drink it as the lactose it removed. It is more easily digested, unlike soy, and doesn't effect the thyroid like soy powder does. Soy is an acidic food and is very hard on the thyroid. You do need to be careful of all the other junk that they add to these so called whey drinks. All sorts of colorings, flavorings etc have been added to make them more attractive. I prefer American Designer plain. It has the fewest amounts of garbage added to it. It's simple enough to add your own flavorings when necessary. We use it in smoothies and use the fruit and juice for sweetners and flavors.
