Have a question! I recently joined a gym and have been going 4 to 5 days a week

for about 3 weeks. I already watch what I eat but due to my knee problem am

limited as to the cardio I can do.

I am at the gym about 2 hours, warmup, I do the circuit machines as instructed

and can manage about 20 minutes of cardio on the bike. To date I have gained a

few pounds. I do know muscle weighs more than fat and I have toned a bit but how

long before I see weight loss?

Oh, I can so sympathize witih you Dinah! When I first started a serious gym

work out a while ago, all I did was gain. Like you, I figured it was muscle

gain so I tried to not stress about it. (yep, wasn't always successful!)

It took months before I got back to my weight when starting those work outs,

then a while more before I started seeing an actual loss on the scale. But

things did fit better, and friends told me I looked a lot more toned and they

could see the muscles I was building. Try to ignore the scale - don't

attach a lot of meaning to it, especially right now. I like to weigh

regularly just as a marker, but I don't attach as much significance

to it as I used to.

So, hang in there, and know you're doing yourself a lot of good. Are you

eating mostly healthy foods? Also, make sure you eat every 3-4 hours.

I actually almost eat every 2-3 hours. Nearly all of my meals are pretty

small, then I follow them up with a tiny, healthy snack a couple hours later.

The measuring tape might be more rewarding than the scale. When I

first worked out, I lost a whole size and never did lose a pound.

Measure around the arm, waist, hip, thigh calf weekly and see some

results. Good luck. An

Hi, Don!

I tried to email you from your website, but it bounced back. I would

dearly love a copy of the manual.
