Guest guest
I want to thank Lyndell, Rachael, and Shanna for their replies to my posting. Each one of you provided aspects of understanding. I have ordered the book " Mars and Venus on a Date " , because I believe this book has the guidelines and instruction for my daughter to follow. Gray's words are powerful. In her school, you hear in the hallways from her peers ( I teach there and I hear it) " Don't let anyone fool you, no one is a virgin in our school. " Also a POWERFUL (but inaccurate) statement. My daughter will benefit from abstinence support messages to maintain her virginity (Amen). This book is the right tool to provide her with structure and reinforcement outside of hearing messages from her Mother. Thank you to Lyndell and Shanna for sharing your thoughts about making decisions for your own daughters, and providing the link to the Cancer Monthly. Yes, Lyndell, I agree that our daughters must learn safe sex practices when they become sexually active, and I would agree with you Shana, " I know in my heart that this vaccine is a bad idea. But I couldn't stomach. the thought of " What if " my daughter was the one to get cervical cancer because I made this decision " . I believe that when the book arrives in a few days (it cost 19 cents on amazon.com plus shipping) we can read it together and write out the steps and boundaries it suggests taking when dating, and we can discuss the emotional stability factors - as Rachael said, " if a woman doesn't stick to this system, she will not be getting the emotional support in the form of a commitment from the man that she needs in order to remain emotionally stable " . A good eye opener and deterrent for all to understand regarding safe sex practice is to check into reputable resources such as the CDC where I get statistics for classroom instruction. The NIH is a good source of information, too. I got this from the CDC this morning. " Approximately 20 million people are currently infected with HPV. At least 50 percent of sexually active men and women acquire genital HPV infection at some point in their lives. By age 50, at least 80 percent of women will have acquired genital HPV infection. About 6.2 million Americans get a new genital HPV infection each year. " http://www.cdc.gov/std/HPV/STDFact-HPV.htm#common Oh if only I could spread the message throughout my daughter's school that abstainence makes the heart grow fonder. 4 girls in her class are pregnant even though the Health classes have those computerized babies that they carry around 24/7 in Parenting classes. If a young girl is raised in such a way that she internalizes morals and values derived from a loving and supportive family, and deveolops self esteem and confidence, she has a basic foundation that will help her to overcome the blatant and permiscuous world of violent and sexual movies, videos, music, and dismissing the messages from the inappropriate Hollywood role models photographed coming out of nightclubs half dressed and half baked with a guy on their arm. Let's bring back Little House on the Prairie!! in loving kindness, Linda
