PEJ News: BC's New Criminal Class: Teachers Behind Bars? I often hear about Americans wanting to go, and going to Canada to avoid going back to, or just avoid going Iraq. The Canadians do have troops in Afghanistan, but refused to help Bush invade Iraq. After reading the following article, it appears Canada is on the very same Agenda, the Bush Administration is on, Corporatism Canada! Read on! " Why are the teachers called illegal when this same Media allows the Corporations to commit mass murder without saying a word? www.PEJ.org WHY ARE THE TEACHERS 'ILLEGAL'? Jack Etkin October 12, 2005 BECAUSE THE GOVERNMENT AND THE MEDIA ARE CORPORATE. The teacher's are acting illegally because Gordon Campbell has said they are, and the media reports it as if it's true. But Campbell doesn't work for the people of BC, he works for the Corporations of BC ... and the Media doesn't work for us, it's Corporate too. So why do we believe these weasels when they tell us that teachers are on an illegal strike? This is not a teacher's strike. This is a Corporate attack on public education being sold to us as a teacher's strike. The Corporations are successfully screwing up our health care system so it can be privatized. Privatizing public education is also on their agenda. The provincial budget a few weeks ago included a Corporate tax break worth $400 to $500 million over the next 3 years.. just about enough to solve this education crisis. This is how the Corporations and their Governments and their Media work; buckets full of money are given to the Corporate wealthy, the rest of us pay the price. Because the teachers have dared to stand up, Corporate power is being arrayed against them. The Corporate Government makes the teachers defense of public education 'illegal'. And the corrupt Media calls the fight for public education an 'illegal strike'. The Media must be joking when they pretend concern about what is 'illegal'. Why are the teachers called 'illegal' when this same Media allows the Corporations to commit mass murder without saying a word? . As one small example, the drug Vioxx is believed to have killed (or murdered) 4000 Canadians over the last few years. It is widely believed that the Merck Corporation (and federal government regulators) knew of the dangers and kept them hidden because Vioxx was a multi-billion dollar a year item. Has the Corporate Media called that illegal? Have you heard of the 4000 dead Canadians? The Corporate Media and Government allow Corporate mass murder. Only those who stand against the Corporation are called illegal. The Gordon Campbell government is not democratic, it is Corporate. It is a joke for a nobody like Gordon Campbell to make thousands of decent hard-working people 'illegal'. It's up to all of us to call this government and this media what they are, Corporate shills and liars; thieves who have stolen our democracy and are stealing our right to a decent education for Canada's children. Our country is being stolen from us; this is just one more step along the way, but maybe it's a good time to stop them. Jack Etkin is a long-time Victoria-based activist and media critic.
