Guest guest
RE: Mad cow madness: USDA lies and the coming collapse of the U.S. beef industry I used to be a total carnivore, however I have been around the US feed industry and seen animals that should be composted, not turned into animal feed used as material to be fed to the animals we rely on as our food supply. There is in my opinion no reason a herbivore should be eating meat anyway, except that the meat industry wants to feed them high protein food to make them grow quicker. I also have a serious problem with using hormones and keeping them in pens so crowed that they must be fed antibiotics to keep them alive. What are we going to do when we have fed so many antibiotics to animals that the bacteria that cause disease have become immune to them? This is just a plain foolish way to raise food. Let alone the health concerns it raises. Unfortunately, chickens or hogs are no better in the way they are raised. Chickens are raised in cages so small they can not even turn around in them. One set of cages frequently is directly over the next and the feces drop onto the bird, his food and water of his neighbor below. They too are raised with hormones and antibiotics to keep them alive and grow them as fast as possible. I saw recent report that showed 90% of all of the eggs they tested had salmonella at low levels in them, so if you let them sit in a warm environment they become toxic. It is disgusting! Ever wonder why a Banquet chicken comes to you with the bones broken in odd ways? That happens because the doors of the cages they grow up in are too small for the chicken to be removed through them once grown, you have to breaking their bones to remove them from the cages. I have done the work myself and found it unnecessarily cruel and foolish. I grew up on a farm and we never would have treated out animals in such a way. Not only is it cruel to the animal, but how healthy can it be to eat an animal that must be supported by such artificial means? Now don’t think I am squeamish. I hunt, fish and grew up raising and killing nearly everything I ate. I have no problem killing and dressing my own food. I also have always hunted with mutts because if they don’t hunt properly I would shoot and bury them. Then get another to train. I just do not see any reason to be unnecessarily cruel to any animal, (although I do not feel it is unnecessarily cruel to shoot an animal in the head to butcher or dispose of it, as opposed to turning it loose and letting it fend for it’s self. My family shot many a dog or cat some slob dropped off by our farm thinking we would take it in. We had animal we trained, took care of and raised to do particular jobs. We in no way wanted their trash causing us problems, eating our chickens or chasing our cows, etc. If you have a dog or cat you do not want to have, find the courage to locate it a decent home, have it put to sleep or shoot the damn thing yourself. NEVER EVER DROP IT OFF IN THE COUNTRY AS I ASSURE YOU MOST FARMERS WILL KILL IT AS BEST THEY CAN RATHER THAN DEAL WITH YOUR GARBAGE. It is not). Also, I do not feel that eating an animal raised under unhealthy conditions could possibly healthy or as nutritionious as eating an animal raised under low stress, healthy conditions on decent feed. I currently eat very little meat and no eggs or milk. The meat I do eat is raised by a friend I trust, who raises the meat he feeds his own family. He is aware of the nasty things the animal feed industry is up to and raises his own hay and grain as well as range feeds his animals like we did when I was a kid and we raised our own meat. Unless the food industry cleans up it’s act I will continue avoiding their products and recomend others do the same. If they loose enough buisness they will clean up their act, but as long as they can get away with the bullshit they are currently doing, they will continue. It's all about the all mighty dollar to them! Mark, grgeek (Grand Rapids GEEK)
