Tell ExxonMobil CEO Lee Raymond to disavow NCPA report!

With New Orleans still underwater and the economic damage

assessments and death toll along the Gulf states rising every

day, it is unconscionable that one of ExxonMobil's mouthpiece

organizations would use this moment to advance its policy agenda

designed to protect corporate profits, not human life.

 

The National Center for Policy Analysis (NCPA), an organization

to which ExxonMobil gave $315,000 over the past seven years,

released a report that argues that policies designed to cut

global warming pollution condemn thousands to poverty, disease

and even death. It is hard to miss the irony of this report,

coming in the wake of Hurricane Katrina and the massive toll it

continues to have on human life, public health, and the economy.

NCPA and stop funding front groups that spread global warming

disinformation.

It is a national tragedy that more than 500 people have lost

their lives in Mississippi, Alabama and Louisiana. The total

economic damage is estimated to be over $125 billion with

insured losses of up to $60 billion. Yet the NCPA shows no shame

in using the timing of this horrific disaster to promote its own

agenda.

 

Please tell ExxonMobil to disavow and stop funding organizations

like the National Center for Policy Analysis, which have used

funding from ExxonMobil to sow confusion and disinformation into

one of the most important policy issues of our day, global

warming.

With the American consumers feeling the pain of $3.00 per gallon

gasoline, it would be far better to use ExxonMobil's political

influence and some of the $7.6 billion in profits it made in the

last quarter to reduce our dependence on oil by supporting

higher fuel economy standards and investing in renewable fuels.
