Katrina Relief to Come from US World Breastfeeding Week Funds

Five percent of the 2005 World Breastfeeding Week Celebrations' total

funds had been designated for Joint Projects sponsored by the La

Leche League Eastern US Division and United States Western Division.

In light of the devastation from Hurricane Katrina, the Divisions

have designated the Joint Projects money to support Leaders and

breastfeeding mothers in the affected areas of the Gulf States. An

example of this support might be to replace copies of the Womanly Art

of Breastfeeding, Breastfeeding Answer Book, and Leader's Handbook to

Leaders who have lost theirs due to flooding or other damage. We know

that the Leaders who have been affected by this catastrophe are

focusing on their own families at this time, but we would like them

to know this money will be available whenever they are again ready

and able to include LLL Group work into their lives. An announcement

will be coming soon about the formation of a Joint Projects Committee

which will oversee distribution of all Joint Projects funds. We

anticipate the Committee will operate via the LLL Community Network.

There are still three weeks left to participate in the 2005 WBW

Celebrations. Please consider an event so that the 5% portion

designated for disaster relief will continue to grow. Visit
