Please read my letter that is on my blog at RadioLeft.com and please do the same. Thanks, Mary! http://blog.radioleft.com/blog/MaryMacElveen/_archives/2005/9/13/1223544.html Hurricane Victims Need the Aid Instead of Corporate America. by Radio Left at 07:57AM (EDT) on September 13, 2005 | To My Fellow Americans, Congressional members never fail to amaze me when some will state that our aid package to the hurricane victims is going overboard. Then what does one expect in this pro-corporate society we are all living in. Below is a letter to the editor (USA Today) which ran that piece. This is symptomatic of the sick society we are all living in where I feel we need to keep fighting back against corporate America. Sincerely, Mary MacElveen! Mary [xmjmac] Tuesday, September 13, 2005 7:50 AM 'editor' Hurricane Victims Need the Aid Instead of Corporate America. Dear Editor, I would like to respond to your column, " Some Say Congress Going Overboard on Aid " by asking these critics of the aid package given to hurricane victims, were they just as vocal at the billions spent in the Iraq War? If anything was a knee-jerk reaction it was invading a country that had nothing to do with the attacks that befell us on September 11th. So far the biggest benefactors are companies such as Halliburton who have been paid billions of dollars through no bid contracts. I would like to ask these critics if they are as vocal in their criticism when it came to the latest war appropriations bill that cost the tax payer $82 billion dollars and contained within that bill we will be spending $600 million dollars for new embassy in Iraq. Are they just as vocal when it comes to the latest highway bill where companies like Wal Mart will receive $37 million dollars for a road expansion project at the Bentonville, Arkansas plant? Are they just as vocal where a bridge to no where and named for a sitting congressman whose name is Don Young of Alaska will cost $223 million dollars? But, bringing the argument back to hurricane Katrina, are they just as vocal in us paying Halliburton $500 million dollars to clean up after her? With the billions we have already paid Halliburton; they should be doing this for free.
