Dear Friends,

The farmers of West Bengal and the North East have taken the novel initiative to

come out with a VCD film on the evil effects of chemical pesticides and the

urgent need for ecologically friendly farming. The film, which is already in

advanced stages of completion, is being directed by none other than the National

Award winning director Tarun Majumdar. Sri Majumdar said, in an interview to the

national ETV channel in India, that the subject was close to his heart as he has

always been a champion of traditional values which has been reflected in all the

films he has directed so far. The actors of the film are from Bengal and North

East and have given a very credible performance in the film, clips of which were

shown in the channel. The film revolves round the story of a Professor who is

hounded by both the Government as well as the fertiliser industry for his

radical views. The film is aptly titled, " Desher Mati " or the " Soil of my Mother

land " .

For the alternate health practitioners who have to depend on organically

produced herbs for best results, this film should come as a shot in the arm. For

all other doctors too this film should help as the general population would be

healthier if organic farming methods were used widely.

With this film, the number of films being made against the rampant use of

chemicals in all phases of our lives, goes up to three.

Regards,

Jagannath.
