The Real Drug War

Mike Adams, News Target's crusading Health Ranger, points out that

although schoolchildren are well versed in the dangers of illegal

drugs, 60 percent of them are taking drugs that are just as dangerous

-- but drugs which happen to be legal and FDA approved.

Is There a Difference?

Many legal drugs are dangerous and have no real medical purpose, like

tobacco. Even prescription drugs supposedly taken for medical reasons

often have no true medical function, like Ritalin, which is mainly

used to keep children docile, and statin drugs, which treat symptoms

but not actual health problems. On the other hand, many drugs that are

banned, like marijuana, have demonstrated medical benefits. A good

number of prescription drugs are addictive, and they kill more people

each year than all illegal drugs combined.

Follow the Money

The real determining factor in which drugs are legal and which are

banned is not safety, addiction or medical function, but whether

corporations or the government profits. Sometimes, substances are

banned in some forms but not others for this reason. Ephedra is banned

when found in the unpatentable Chinese herb ma huang, but legal when

found in profitable Sudafed and cold medicines.

The current state of the law has produced a well-organized system for

manufacturing, promoting, delivering and selling deadly, addictive

drugs, in order to create corporate profits and tax revenues.

Dr. Mercola's Comment:

Mike Adams states in this article that he believes you should remain

100-percent drug free, whether the drugs are legal or illegal. In

general, I agree. Why would you want to put dangerous, toxic

substances in your body? It doesn't make sense when it's against the

law, and it doesn't make sense when it's not only legal but encouraged

by a government heavily lobbied by the pharmaceutical industry.

Sometimes drugs are appropriate, and can save a person's life, but far

more often they are unnecessary, harmful and expensive.

Most people have no idea that America is only one of two countries on

the planet that allows drug companies to advertise prescription drugs

directly to their citizens. Drug companies spend $4 billion a year on

media advertising to convince you to take their drugs.

They also spend another $15 billion a year on marketing as well as

helping fund medical schools, conferences and studies to convince your

doctor to prescribe their drugs to you. It's no wonder that they've

convinced most of America that their drugs are safe and beneficial. If

that much money were spent advertising the health benefits of rat

poison, you would probably see people sprinkling it on their breakfast

cereal.

Before you pop a pill for your problem, think about whether or not you

really need it. Many illnesses can be cured or prevented with safe,

natural methods like proper diet and exercise.
