Martial Law Declared: Situation Deteriorating 30 Aug 2005 Martial Law

has been declared in New Orleans as conditions continued to

deteriorate. Water levels in The Big Easy and it's suburbs are rising

at dangerous levels and officials stated they don't know where the

water is coming from. Residents are being urged to get out of New

Orleans in any way they can as officials fear " life will be

unsustainable " for days or even weeks.

 

Martial law declared around New Orleans 30 Aug 2005 Martial law was

declared in New Orleans midday Tuesday as the city continued flooding

from at least two levees damaged by Hurricane Katrina.

 

EMT held hostage 30 Aug 2005 Lancaster resident Jennifer Frenette had

a brush with martial law yesterday in New Orleans. When Hurricane

Katrina finally passed through the city, she and others who had been

virtual prisoners in the Hilton New Orleans Riverside Hotel decided to

go outside for some fresh air. A police officer told them if they

didn't go back inside, they'd be arrested. They went back inside.

 

'This Is Our Tsunami' 30 Aug 2005 Death and destruction ravaged the

severely storm-battered Gulf Coast Tuesday, with as many as 80 dead in

one Mississippi county alone and martial law declared in New Orleans

in order to rebuild them), why wasn't the money spent in the US, to

Bush Cut Hurricane, Flood Protection Funding to New Orleans 06 June

2005 In fiscal year 2006, the New Orleans district of the U.S. Army

Corps of Engineers is bracing for a record $71.2 million reduction in

federal funding. It would be the largest single-year funding loss ever

for the New Orleans district, Corps officials said. I've been here

over 30 years and I've never seen this level of reduction, said Al

Naomi, project manager for the New Orleans district... The cuts mean

major hurricane and flood protection projects will not be awarded to

local engineering firms. Also, a study to determine ways to protect

the region from a Category 5 hurricane has been shelved for now.
