European Forum for Vaccine Vigilance

Sat, 6 Aug 2005 16:32:32 +0100

EFVV 2005

The seventh and final annual meeting of the European Forum for Vaccine

Vigilance (EFVV) took place in Yenne, France from the 8th to the 10th

July 2005. The group originally formed in 1999 with the objective to

collect European cases of vaccine reaction and to make a presentation,

with other supporting information, to the European Parliament. The

project aims to raise awareness of the adverse effects which

vaccinations can cause, and hopefully, in the long-term, to achieve

greater freedom of choice with respect to vaccinations, in all

European countries. By summer 2004, over 1000 cases had been

collected from six countries (278 from the UK). The data was then

analysed by country. Those attending this year included

representatives from France (3), Italy (2), Belgium (2), Germany &

Luxembourg (1), Holland (1), Spain (1) and two from the UK: Lesley

King RSHom and Helen Kimball-Brooke representing the ARH.

Since last year's meeting, the final report had been drafted in

Spanish and French, then translated into English by Helen

Kimball-Brooke and into German by the delegate from Germany. The

report includes a table of all 278 of the UK cases, which makes

interesting reading. It was decided at this meeting that the text

would also be translated into Dutch and Italian, then printed out in

all six languages. Copies would be submitted, along with a CD-Rom of

the full text, including a bibliography of some 3,000 papers on

vaccines and their effects, to the heads of the seven major political

parties and also to the heads of three committees: Committee for The

Environment, Public Health and Food Safety, Committee for Internal

Market and Consumer Protection, Committee for Civil Liberties, Justice

and Home Affairs. Two hundred copies of the CD-Rom would be

distributed, 64 of them to the MEPs who voted favourably on a text

regarding homeopathy in the EU, and might therefore be more receptive

to the report than others. A provisional timetable was drawn up for

submission of the document to the European Parliament:

- Completion and printing of the report by the 15th of September,

- Posting or hand delivery of the report to the MEPs

mentioned above around the 1st October, at which time interviews would

be requested with the heads of the three relevant committees,

- Press conference at 11am on the 21st of November, followed

by a buffet lunch, then a demonstration at 4pm and a public meeting at

6pm.

The 21st of November was chosen for the press conference because the

parliamentary committees would all be meeting in Brussels that week.

Speakers at both the press conference and the public meeting would be

Dr. Kris Gaublomme from Belgium, who often speaks on this subject,

with the title Vaccination: Miracle or Time Bomb, Françoise Jouët from

France and Dr. Xavier Uriarte from Spain, both heads of parent support

groups similar to The Informed Parent here in the UK. It is hoped

that interviews with the heads of the three parliamentary committees

might be obtained around the same time.

Lastly, the group discussed how its work could continue into the

future. Dr. Kris Gaublomme from Belgium offered to develop and manage

an EFVV website which would be divided into separate pages for each

country/language. We managed to purchase the domain name of

" www.efvv.org " The site, which should be up and running shortly, will

provide information on the official vaccination schedule in each

country and will be updated periodically with news items, whose titles

will be translated and posted on the home page. The site may also

include a closed area as a forum for members.

Our final conference closed with an all round sense of satisfaction.

We each came away with very specific tasks to do towards the

completion of the project, and we look forward to meeting up again in

Brussels for its culmination in November. Any Alliance of Registered

Homeopaths members who would like to join us in Brussels for greater

impact on the 21st of November would be most welcome.
