Today I got a new book with the title: " Selling Sickness " , Ray

Moynihan, Alan Cassels, ISBN 1-55365-131-6, how the world's biggest

Pharmaceutical companies are turning us all into patients. The

underlying principle of our public system enshrined in the Canada

Health Act could be seriously underminded by the growing corporate

influence documented in " Selling Sickness " . A medical profession too

inebriated by the largesse of profit-driven drug companies cannot

serve the public interest...Ultimately, as " Selling Sickness " makes

compellingly clear, a health system that allows drug companies to play

a role in defining who is sick, is fundamentally unhealthy!

 

Ray Moynihan has been covering the business of health care for almost

a decade as an award winning broadcast journalist and more recently

with the British Medical Journal. He has been published in the New

England Journal of Medicine and the Lancet and was a Harkness Fellow

in health care policy based at Harvard University.

 

Alan Cassels is a drug policy researcher at the University of

Victoria, in British Columbia. He has spent most of the last ten years

studying how clinical research about prescription drugs is

communicated to policy makers, prescribers, and consumers and has

produced several full length documentaries for CBC " Ideas " , including

" Manufacturing Patients " , which deals with the subject of selling

sickness.
