Yes, CAFTA will have the authority to do things the constitution does not give our govt---the right to regulate non-drugs, food supplements and such. But that's not the worst part. Yes, these workers are about to be exploited by the international corps of America as 10,000's US jobs become $7.25/day jobs in Central America. But that's not the worst part. The worst thing about is CAFTA, once the prez signs off on the bill now passed by both houses of Congress, their power will exceed the authority of the state laws, fedl laws, the Supreme Law of the Land and the Supreme Court of the United States---just like NAFTA. Or maybe not. Maybe it's even worse that the so-called free press has been too involved with inconsequential political bickering to notice, once again, We the People are under attack. God bless America, R.I.P. Rich Martin Editor, Slick eZine - j July 27, 2005 Exploitation of American Continues! When one views the Central America Free Trade Agreement (CAFTA), one can't help but ask, who is the real benefactor of this agreement? Let's take a look at the countries other than ours that are involved. We have Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua, Costa Rica and the Dominican Republic. Researchers have documented that these six countries have a combined Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of $85 billion. To put in perspective, as James Gass points out in the American Conservative, this is approximately the same GDP as the city of New Haven, Connecticut. A few other interesting points to be aware of. Over 35% of their combined population is under age 14, approximately 60% live in poverty and 70% are illiterate, illegitimate, live in rural areas and die avoidable deaths. The average minimum wage is $30 per week or $1560 per year. The higher paid workers can make as much as $7.00 for their 12 hour day as long as they produce their 400 daily pairs of blue jeans that are sold in Wal-Mart and other import heavy stores. That's $7 per ay, not per hour. To make a long story short, these countries abound in worker sweat boxes, thrive on child labor and expect maximum results for a pittance, none of which would be tolerated here in this country. Sounds like a great place in which to conduct business or is it a great place for businesses to further exploit at the expense of middle class Americans. As a Republican and one of the few conservative Constitutionalists left in our government, Rep. Ron Paul of Texas has pointed out, CAFTA will only further erode the American middle class as big business moves more and more jobs to Central American via the CAFTA agreement. It's a plan and simple fact, the more manufacturing jobs moved out of the country, the lower the overall standard of living will go for those of us remaining. Yes, some businesses will increase their handsome profits to the stockholders, at least until they cycle through their slave labor in Central America and beyond, but at what cost? Big business is whole-heartedly behind CAFTA as it offers them the ability to manipulate their business practices, thus circumventing our current law. To further expound on this, Rep. Paul recently said; " Pharmaceutical companies have spent billions of dollars trying to get Washington to regulate your dietary supplements like European governments do. So far, that effort has failed in America, in part because of a 1994 law called the Dietary Supplement Health and Education Act. Big Pharma and the medical establishment hate this Act, because it allows consumers some measure of freedom to buy the supplements they want. Americans like this freedom, however-- especially the health conscious Baby Boomers. This is why the drug companies support WTO and CAFTA. They see international trade agreements as a way to do an end run around American law and restrict supplements through international regulations. The largely government-run health care establishment, including the nominally private pharmaceutical companies, want government to control the dietary supplement industry-- so that only they can manufacture and distribute supplements. If that happens, as it already is happening in Europe, the supplements you now take will be available only by prescription and at a much higher cost-- if they are available at all. This alone is sufficient reason for Congress to oppose the unconstitutional, sovereignty-destroying CAFTA bill. " Bottomline, there is nothing good about CAFTA. It destroys the American dream and weakens our country. Understand, those supporting this devastating bill don't have your best interest at heart. Just as NAFTA made the first sucking sound, number two isn't far behind with CAFTA. Our country is slowly being dismantled right before our eyes. Hopefully enough of us open them before it is too late. Posted by John at 12:44 PM | Comments (2) ----> The Slick eZine Family <----
