Several of you have called/emailed wanting an update from

me on the CAFTA/Codex issue.

 

All I can tell you is that CAFTA hasn't yet gone to the

House Floor, but that it could at any time between now and the

August recess of Congress so we must KEEP THE PRESSURE ON!

 

Thus far, Bush hasn't made his move because he doesn't have

the votes. Hopefully he'll NEVER get them in part due to

OUR grass roots pressure. He's politicking and trying to make

deals and twist arms. The Hill is crawling with

multinational lobbyists of every stripe, and for us, its ACT or be

ACTED UPON and in ways we won't like, so we CAN'T let up our

guard!

 

I have reason to believe that Fox News has gotten wind of

our issue and that they intend to attempt to do major SPIN

against our message via a traitor by the name of Andrew

Weil, MD. This wouldn't be happening if we weren't having a

MAJOR IMPACT on Congress, so we need to TURN UP THE HEAT EVEN

MORE in part to overcome any attempts from major media to

do spin against us, because that could easily happen.

 

When a President is under the sort of corporate pressure

that Bush is under to DELIVER on something of this magnitude,

often they will attempt to pull a FAST one by trying to

hold a vote during a LATE NIGHT session of Congress. Seems to

me like he's hoping to OUTLAST us by delaying the vote

possibly til the last minute figuring the grass roots heat will

die down as more and more people leave to go on vacation.

 

Living at a summer beach resort as I do, I am acutely aware

that more and more people are coming here to Point Roberts

for vacation as the summer comes on- and I've seen votes on

contentious things like this be rammed down our throats

more times than I care to remember during the summer- so I'm

urging VIGILANCE!

CAFTA BAD FOR DIETARY SUPPLEMENT CONSUMERS-

SPS LANGUAGE BURIED IN IT

THREATENS HARMONIZATION TO CODEX

In 1994 vitamin consumers generated the largest volume of

mail to Congress on any issue in the HISTORY of Congress

when we passed the Dietary Supplement Health and Education Act

of 1994.

 

 

Today, CAFTA threatens to undo all of our hard work, and to

set the USA up for harmonization to an excessively

restrictive global trade guideline for vitamins and minerals just

finalized on July 4th 2005 at the 28 General Session of the

UN's Codex Alimentarius Commission.

 

 

The seeds of our health freedom destruction are sewn inside

Section 6 of CAFTA where members are forced to form a

Sanitary-Phytosanitary Measures (SPS) Committee for the purpose

of insuring ONGOING HARMONIZATION of our laws under the

terms of the SPS Agreement in the WTO Trade Agreement. (See

If you examine Article 3 of the WTO's SPS Agreement you

will read the following words: " To harmonize sanitary and

phytosanitary measures on as wide a basis as possible, members

SHALL base their food safety measures on international

standards, guidelines or recommendations. "

 

 

(Codex sets the international standard for food safety, and

they intend to fill in the blanks on allowed potencies at

levels even LOWER than RDAs- see

Vitamin consumers drove many congressmen out of office who

failed to vote for DSHEA in '94.

Any member of Congress who fails to heed our concerns about

CAFTA and votes for this unconstitutional trade agreement

anyway, despite how it sets us up for harmonization to

Codex, and despite its continuing the failed policies of NAFTA

which gave us our present $617 Billion trade deficit risks

being driven from office. IAHF will be posting a list of any

member of Congress who ignores our concerns. We urge you to

urge them to also take action! Be mindful that this is a

battle to defend our SOVEREIGNTY. All of our most cherished

freedoms are at stake here, not just our ability to access

the dietary supplements of our choice.

 

If we fail to kill CAFTA, we could have serious difficulty

trying to kill the Free Trade Area of the Americas which

would follow it. The FTAA would be the prelude for creation

of a carbon copy of the EU Dictatorship in our hemisphere,

and we don't need the sort of headaches that the Alliance

for Natural Health has had to contend with such as the

draconian EU Food Supplements Directive.

 

I realize that all the pharma dominated vitamin trade

associations are doing spin against my anti Codex, anti CAFTA

message. Consider the source, and consider what their GOAL

is- they WANT Codex, they WANT one size fits all regulations

REGARDLESS of what they have to give up to get them because

they're after increased market share. The biggest companies

in the industry are controlling these trade associations

and all they care about is pleasing investors and they can do

that by knocking off smaller competitors. This article by

ANDREW WEIL! What a shock! What on earth is Weil doing embroiled in this

controversy. Why would such an illustrious and nutrition-oriented doctor work

to " bolster " CODEX? We need some more careful scrutiny here. In fact, Weil is

engaged in selling his own line, or aiding in the sales of a line of,

nutritional supplements.
