I just dug out my old pin, now officially UN-retired. Who wudda thunk it?

----

I came up with this as an outward sign of my concern

for the survival of Roe v Wade.

It just occurred to me. I went to my closet and got

out a couple of wire hangers from the dry cleaners. I

took off the plastic and paper wrapping and stretched

'em out just a little, and hung 'em in both rear

windows of my car - where the little garment hooks

are. And that's how I plan to drive around from now

on.

Because thanks to Sandra Day " Traitor to her Gender "

O'Connor's retirement, a woman's right to have the

last word over her body is now about to have its

feeding tube removed. We'll be back to back-alley

abortions with wire coat hangers, because safe and

legal abortion is about to be outlawed. Roe v Wade is

now officially on Death Row. Death Roe, I guess.

I can't count HOW MANY women I know who've become so

complacent and casual about the hard-fought, hard-won

battle to secure a woman's right to have the last word

over her own body. I can't tell you how many of them

have blithely responded to my concerns with " aw, it's

not gonna happen. " " Nah, not gonna happen. " " It isn't

gonna happen. " And of course, these women voted for

bush, or claim to vote republi-CON on a regular basis.

Well, this lovely announcement by Miz Sandra Day

" Traitor to her Gender " O'Connor has changed ALL of

that. I fear Roe v Wade is now, in effect, officially

on Death Row. And we need to point out what that'll

mean when abortion is no longer safe and legal.

And for those who point out (correctly) that too many

women in this country are too young to remember, or

appreciate, the back-alley abortions and the coat

hangers that were used and the fear and suffering and

isolation women endured when they had nowhere else to

turn, and how too many women bled to death in

desperation, because they were forced to take matters

into their own hands - couldn't this be a way to get a

conversation started? And a memory of the BAD OLD DAYS

shared? And maybe even ONE additional woman could be

awakened to this horrendous threat? And maybe even ONE

additional woman will get angry and upset and decide

to do something? And maybe even ONE more woman may

decide to call her congressman/woman or her senator

and urge a SCOTUS nominee who's moderate?

It's an awful lot better than doing nothing - but

maybe feeling desolated.

Whaddya think?
