Guest guest
> Please start off with a little, and work your way up gradually!! That will help to tell you how far you can go yourself. Yes, as was stated before, definitely increase gradually. The suggested optimum dose is 1500mg. > Niacinamide does not have the flushing effect - that active ingredient has been removed. I've heard somewhat conflicting things on this. Some say that the non-flushing niacin doesn't have the same good benefits of the regular kind. Others say that it's just the same with much less flushing. Is there any definitive answers on this? Thanks.
Guest guest
Hi Lisa: I used to take niacin for my migraines. It worked very well and I think the " flush " was what did the trick. I would take it when I felt the migraine coming on and it wasn't long til it was gone. I don't have migraines since I became vegan. Guest guest
OK, I want to post even more of a warning. I have had a lot of experience with niacin, including taking the very large amounts on a Purification Program, which is monitored and fantastic. Niacin is great, and I don’t fear the flushes, because I understand them. But years ago, one morning, I took maybe 200 mg. of niacin with fresh beet and spinach juice on an empty stomach, and my liver went into convulsions. I passed out. A friend who knows a lot helped me recover with buffered vitamin C. Since then, I always made sure I didn’t take it on an empty stomach or with other detoxifying things, and I always take it with enough C. But recently, after doing the Total Body Cleanse, I took just 100mg. of niacin NOT on an empty stomach, but I was still eating a detoxifying diet. Same thing happened, and I passed out twice. I recovered by taking lots of EmergenC. I am VERY leary of taking niacin again. I think this might indicate I really need to handle my liver and/or kidneys, as I thought I did. That will help to tell you how far you can go yourself. BTW, the flush is a totally natural " side effect " of Niacin, and is what is supposed to happen! Guest guest
Hello, my name is Kyle and I suffer from high cholesterol. Bad cholesterol runs in my family. I saw my doctor the other day and he told me to look into Niacin, some type of suppliment that should be available at GNC or Vitamin Shoppe. I'm not sure if any of you consider it an alternative medicine, but I figure I should try to get any information I can. He told me that there is a pretty lengthy list of side effects and that made me slightly concerned. If anybody could tell me some information about Niacin, or what it does or how it works, I would be very greatful. Thank you

They were extremely high. It was explained to me, that basically, once the body has received all it can use, the amount that you've taken over what the body needs, causes the body to 'flush', trying to get rid of the amount that was too much. A cool bath will ease the symptoms as well. I lowered my dosage and worked back up in small increments, until I found the amount that caused the flushing. Once this happened again, I lowered it back down to the dose that didn't cause the flushing. My triglycerides dropped down into the normal range after a couple of months of using the Niacin. HTH a bit, and hopefully Doc can chime in, and perhaps tell more than I have....and correct me as well, if I've gotten anything wrong in this post. Literally felt like my skin was on fire, and I itched very badly. So, I knocked back the dosage to just below the dose that caused the extreme flushing. I am sure I experienced mild flushing....that didn't hurt. And that was perfectly okay. Just thought I might need to explain that a bit further. I had to bathe for like 2 hours in cool water just to keep from feeling like I was going to burn up from the inside out, when I had the severe flushing. Guest guest
Wow Candy, what dosage did you use to get such an extreme flush? I often flush at 50mg dosage already. I find it important though to use Niacin on a full stomach. I once had it on an empty stomach and had such a bad flush that I fainted. That doesn't happen when I take it on a full stomach. love Lisa - C. Guest guest
Hi Propaul, the flushing is a necessary action of the niacin for the purpose for which I take it, i.e. the flushing out of toxins. Niacinamide won't do this! BTW, I assume you mean Niacinamide instead of Nicotinamide LOL love Lisa - Paul Azadian herbal remedies Saturday, September 17, 2005 8:48 PM Re: Herbal Remedies - Re: niacin Hi Lisa and others interested in niacin,Why not take NON Flushing Nicotinamide instead ofniacin? Guest guest
Hi Lisa, You are correct I meant Niacinamide and as far as I know it suppose to flush out toxins the same way as niacin, but without the flushing of the skin. Guest guest
Dear Susan, This is not a rash so much as a "flush", and an half an hour is how long this flush lasts with or without water. :-) What this phenomenon is, is nothing more than running out radiation from the body. When done in a supervised capacity it is a very "Pro" thing. Niacin purification treatments are best done supervised since they are a bit involved. Supervised programs are also the best way to get the most out of them. You do NOT want the "no flush" niacin. Nor do you want the "Niacinamide" form of vitamin B3. The no flush and the Niacinamide "salt form" of the vitamin are almost useless. You want the full blown, flush to the ears, Nicotinic Acid. The more flush the better. It is not the most comfortable thing on the planet, but a flush caused by 100 to 200 Mg of Niacin are very beneficial. Since it passes the blood / brain barrier, using it can also be extremely beneficial in removing heavy metals from the brain, and is therefore essential in handling Autism, MS, Downes, Altheimers, and dementia plus a dozen more. Hope this helps.
