I had a lot of luck with St. Johns Wort back in 1998 - 1999 when I suffering from my second bout with depression. I didn't have medical insurance and was told SJW would do the trick so I read a lot about it and started taking supliments. It took about 3 weeks before I started seeing a very noticeable difference in my mood. Since I am accutely aware of my emotions, I can honestly say it did me a world of good. Read about it. Guest guest
I take 5HTP and St. John's Wart. In Germany they use St. John's Wart more than they do prescription medication. There is a lot of good books out there and also web sites to find out more information about how to use them. My family physician, a regular M.D., also practices holistic medicine and we are using both the 5HTP and St. John's Wart. I have fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue syndromes and the 5HTP helps with those also. There is also the amino acid , L-Tyrosine, which can help with depression. You take it on an empty stomach before breakfast and after you have eating follow up with B Complex vitamin. I have an excellent book, Healing from Depression by Douglas Block, M.A. He does include prescription medication as an option in his book but the book takes a holistic approach to depression- herbs, amino acids and other supplements, light therapy, medication and guided imagery, cognitive therapy (thought patterns, nutrition, exercise, Spiritual, etc. I am finding it very helpful ! Guest guest
One of the greatest natural sources of help to stop and prevent depression is sunshine. Also, EFAs (essential fatty acids) will do a lot to help prevent depression (flaxseeds/flaxseed oil being one of the best). Also, avoidance of sugar and refined carbs will do a lot to stop depression. Kat , " John " <jgray1950> wrote: > Hi, Wondering if anyone has had any luck with alternative medicine for > depression?
