Guest guest
When is a vitamin not a vitamin? I did a brief look thru google for Vitamin U. The reasoning for saying it is NOT a vitamin seems rather odd to me. Is it a " vital amine " or not? Anyone got any experience with Vitamin U? Any good web references? Below is a handful of quotes, with URLs. Most sites keep repeating the same information, over & over again -- many using the exact same words. Alobar **************************************************************** Vitamin U is found in raw cabbage and is thought to help with the healing of skin ulcers and ulcers in the digestive tract. Not much other information is available - and dosage and toxicity has not been determined. As soon as more information is available on this nutrient, we will add it to this page. http://www.anyvitamins.com/vitamin-u-info.htm Vitamin U Vitamin U is found in cabbage and is used to treat gastric disorders. Chemical Formula: C6H15NO2S Other names: S-Methyl-L-methionine Explanation: Vitamin U is not a vitamin. Vitamins are essential nutrients that cannot be synthesized (either at all or in sufficient quantities) by a given organism and therefore must be taken with food for the organism's continued good health. The term " vitamin U " was coined because the compound is very effetive in the medical treatment of gastric ulcers. It is found in raw cabbage leaves and other green vegetables. http://www.reciprocalnet.org/recipnet/showsample.jsp?sampleId=27343981 Vitamin U is listed in the Merck Index as methylmethioninesulfonium chloride, a therapeutic agent for the treatment of gastric disorders. It was originally called vitamin U because of its usefulness against ulceration of the digestive system. Vitamin U is extracted from cabbages (hence its alternative name cabagin), and has a strong cabbage-like odour. The traditional use of raw cabbage juice as the treatment of choice for peptic ulcers would seem to support the use of vitamin U supplements (or cabbage juice) as a healing aid for damaged and eroded intestinal mucosa, and this has been extensively confirmed by scientific research, particularly in Russia and other countries of the former Soviet Union. The Vitamin U was termd from the fact that a very small quantity of this compound was effective for the medical treatment of the gastric ulcer. From the word ulcer came letter " U " . But the Vitamin U isn't vitamin, but it is a derivativ of the acid methionin. It strengthens the immunsystem of human, animal, and plant cells. Protects from damage the membran systems of living sells (the walls cellorganels, etc). Moreover the damage can be stopped and can easily be regenerated. Results of utilization on animal organism a. The authors suggest that studies of the effect of the vitamin and its clinical use as an antidepressant should be continued.
