Hello everybody

I'm new to this sight and was wondering if someone could share some

knowledge. I have been taking Paxil, then the cr and now back to the

regular Paxil this has been going on for 4 years with 3 failed

attemps to stop mind you I did wean myself very slowly all three

times but was only able to completely stop the first time but was

back on within 2mo and the other 2 times I couldn't get under 10mg

without the anxiety being too much to handle along with the great

side effects it has. I have been to serveral doctors but it seems

they think I'm crazy ( " thats not side effects that your anxiety!!!

they say right before he refuses to give me another script until i

broke down and told him I didn't want to start)It seems to me I know

alot more about this than any doctor i've talked to. I'm just tired

and want to work toward a solution instead of covering up and

creating more problems. If anyone has some suggestions for this or

knows what I'm talking about with the struggle with this drug it

would be greatly appreciated.

thank you for your time

hi shawnda

Im a paxil survivor!! The best advice i can give you is to go to http://

www.paxilprogress.org

you can download a free pdf of a withdrawal guide there and there is a very

active and supportive forum that deals with thousands of people coming off

paxil.

Hello,

The best advice that you can get is to educate yourself before you do

anything.

Depending on how long you have taken it or other drugs, weaning off of

Paxil, any SSRI, or for that matter any psychotropic medication usually should

be done over a very long term and with care.

It can be very difficult or dangerous to try and stop abruptly if the

person has been on them for any length of time other than briefly.

If you will go to our links page you will find quite a few links to

sites that have accumulated lots of information about these drugs and

how to get off them safely.

You can search our archives from our home page or the message section

for SSRIs and you can find thousands of messages that we have posted.

You can go to our online message boards and go to the psych section

and you will find articles posted there also.

The most important thing that you can do for yourself is to become

educated about these drugs, what to expect when coming off, what

others have experienced, be in a ssri type group of other's who are

going through the same withdrawal process to act as a support system,

etc. There is a fair amount of science and art to weaning off these

type drugs.

How well you educate yourself will usually be in direct proportion to

how easy or hard it will be for you.

After you learn about weaning, then you should learn about nutrients, etc. that

may help after you come off these meds.

regards,

Frank
