It's one of the topics I've written most about over the last decade or so. But even though you may already have heard my point of view before, it serves to every once in a while revisit and reinforce one of my core beliefs - especially if it's one actively denied by the medical establishment. If you aren't up to speed on my uninfluenced-by-the-mainstream stance on vaccines, here's my view in a nutshell: With rare exceptions, the fewer doses of vaccines administered, the better. Why? Because whatever form vaccinations take, whether it's the forced inoculation of our troops against the likes of anthrax (yes, some of them have been sickened or died as a result), or hopelessly brainwashed parents subjecting their children to needless jabbings for smallpox, polio, whooping cough, and a bunch of other mostly obsolete diseases, the whole basic concept of " immunization " is suspect. Here's what I mean: As you may know, vaccines are made from diseases, and many of them are proven to be hazardous, despite what the mainstream says. I think if more folks (especially parents) actually stopped and thought about what vaccination really means - injecting people with supposedly harmless forms of the very diseases they're aiming to prevent - there'd be a lot fewer kids, soldiers, and flu-phobic senior citizens running around with sore arms from needle-pricks. Now, I know what a lot must be thinking: Douglass, you're off your rocker! Vaccines are harmless, and they save millions of lives! Well, not to rock the boat (or the cradle), but neither is true. To those who argue that vaccines save millions of lives, I say this: You can't prove a negative. How can you tabulate the number of people who DON'T die of something? And despite what the medical establishment tells us, vaccines AREN'T harmless. Here's an example: For years, untold millions of American and international children were given a polio vaccine contaminated by a monkey disease called SV40, a virus known to cause brain tumors in lab animals. Doctors doled out the shots anyway - and today, there's an epidemic of adult brain tumors worldwide, with no suitable explanation other than this vaccine. Try finding this out in the mainstream sources, though. If you think this is only stuff that happened in the " old days, " get a load of this: Just 7 years ago (1998), tens of thousands of children in the UK were injected with a polio vaccine contaminated with serum containing Creutzfeld-Jacob Disease - a pernicious brain-rotting condition similar to MAD COW DISEASE. And these two horror stories are only from one common vaccine - kids nowadays routinely get more than a dozen! Keep reading... **************************************************** Correction: SOME kids nowadays get more than a dozen vaccinations. Increasingly, the ones born of smart, conscientious parents don't endure the unnecessary risks of mass inoculations. And that's good news to my ears. According to a recent CBSNews.com article, a July 2004 study published in the journal Pediatrics indicates these parents aren't welfare moms who can't afford the shots or are neglectful of their children - but most often are married, two-parent families in which both parents have college degrees and higher-than-average incomes. Why are these folks shying away from conventional medicine's conventional wisdom? Probably because they're looking at the facts themselves instead of blindly listening to doctors (bravo for the Internet!). Here's one salient fact here: During the country's last big measles outbreak - 1989's 55,000 cases - less than 1/4th of one percent of those who caught the disease died from it. Though I don't have the numbers handy, I have to think this miniscule mortality rate is less than the rate of vaccination-related complications. For some parents, these risks just don't justify the rewards. And thankfully, many states are now granting exemptions to parents who don't want their children immunized. But there's another reason parents may be turning their backs on vaccines for their children, one that's long overdue: A distrust of drug companies. More on this in part 2 of this series, in the next Daily Dose. Taking a jab at the mainstream's needling, William Campbell Douglass II.
