How To Make Sedative Herbal Medicinal Tea

Many herbs have a sedative effect when drunk as infusions or decoctions, and in

herbal medicine.

Infusions are teas made by pouring boiling water over the herb.

Decoctions are made by boiling the herbs in water in a covered pot.

These herbal drinks can be used when anxiety occurs or on a regular basis to

encourage consistent overall tranquility.

The general recipe for making medicinal teas is:

4 parts herb

1 part aromatic herb

1 part demulcent herb

Use a total of one teaspoon of herbs to one cup of water. If you use more than

one herb, they must add up to no more than one teaspoon.

Aromatic herbs are used to spice teas and give them flavor. Examples are:

Allspice

Anise

Caraway

Cardamom

Cinnamon

Clove

Coriander

Ginger

Lemon peel

Orange peel

Vanilla bean

Demulcent herbs have soothing qualities that prevent any internal irritation,

such as stomach upset. Examples of demulcents include:

Arrowroot

Borage

Comfrey root

Licorice root

Marshmallow leaves and root

Oatmeal

Sassafras pith

Slippery elm bark

Solomon's-seal root

Herbs - Effective nerviness or herbal tranquilizers

Bugleweed.

Catnip

Chamomile

Feverfew

Hops

Mullein

Passion Flower

Peppermint

Valerian

Verbena

Dosage:

Drink one to three cups of tea each day in half-cup doses. To keep freshness,

make only just one or two cups at a time.
