Guest guest
======================================== NRDC's EARTH ACTION: The Bulletin for Environmental Activists May 16, 2005 ======================================== Emergency alert -- Vote scheduled for tonight: Tell your senators not to slash funds for transit programs and bike trails Take action now at http://www.nrdcaction.org/action/index.asp?step=2 & item=52763 ====================================================== As we've previously reported, the Senate is currently working on its version of the six-year transportation funding bill. The current bill is funded at $295 billion, $11 billion more than the Bush administration and House of Representatives have agreed to. Late last week Senator Sessions (R-AL) offered an extremely harmful amendment to cut the additional amount on the backs of bike riders, transit riders and anyone who enjoys breathing clean air. Senator Sessions' amendment would cut billions of dollars from projects that reduce smog pollution, improve transit options and encourage smart growth. The proposal also would cut funds for transportation enhancements, which include bike paths and trails. The long-term costs of these cuts to public health and quality of life are immeasurable. The Senate is scheduled to vote *tonight,* May 16th, on this amendment. == What to do == Send a message *right now* urging your senators to vote against the Sessions amendment to the transportation bill (S. 732). == Contact information == You can email or fax your senators directly from NRDC's Earth Action Center at http://www.nrdcaction.org/action/index.asp?step=2 & item=52763 If you have a moment, please also call your senators and urge them to vote No -- the Capitol switchboard number is 202-224-3121. Thank you! ================================================== To update your email address or other information, go to: http://www.nrdcaction.org/profileeditor/.
