Hi Kelly!

The FDA has put in place legislation forbidding that Stevia be used

a sweetener in the U.S.A. Other than that we are " allowed " to use it

as a " dietary supplement " . In other words, the big corporations that

promote the more unhealthy sweeteners (i.e. aspartame, etc)have

petitioned the FDA to withold information about the more healthy

sweeteners such as stevia from the general public, however the letter

states that it is being promoted by " underground " sources. This may

refer to the Internet. If it does, I am more than happy to be a part

of the " underground " . LOL Isn't it wonderful that we that people in

one of the most advanced industrialized nations in the world have our

FDA dictating what we can and cannot eat, while the majority of other

nations of the world enjoy a host of more healthy options! Just

think of the savings that the U.S. healthcare system would incur just

with diabetes alone if they would allow this information to be

distributed to the public. In my opinion, although they are catering

to special interests and think that they are on the cutting edge of

technology, they still are cutting their own throats by witholding

this vital information from the public. The truth is that refined

sugar is poison to our systems, is addictive and contributes to every

common disease in one way or another. Diabetes and hypoglycemia have

become an epidemic. That the american people take this lying down is a wonder to

me.I just could not fathom it when I first became aware of the FDA raids and

everything that has happened since that time to curtail our choices.

JoAnn,

In regards to the stevia, are you saying that it's ok to buy it as a stand alone

ingredient, but it's not ok for manufacturers to use it as an ingredient in a

product?

Kelly, I believe that's the only way its marketed, as a single

ingredient. Although FDA doesn't allow it to be marketed as a

sweetener, they do approve it as a single ingredient if there are no

accompanying claims made on the label for its use AS a sweetener.

NOW brand single packets are pretty reasonable in the 100 pkt box.

My husband has been labeled a diabetic in the past, so we rely

pretty heavily on the stevia. It has improved his neuropathy 100%.

No more leg pains, thankfully.

Hi JoAnn,

I bet that when Codex is put into place as it will be very shortly, that Stevia

will go along with all the other supplements.

I hope not. Our freedoms are fast being removed, our options and choices are

eroded by this evil scheme.

I have been using stevia for about 2 years now. It's the best sugar substitute.

Actually I don't think of it as a sugar substitute but as an important sweetener

in it's own right.

Perhaps it is time to locate some stevia plants! I hope your words are

not prophetic! First of all I'm wondering if it would thrive in this

climate as it is originally from south america
